Straight to the Point

Ey all! Working our through the week so we can get into festival mode this weekend.  We have a biggy festival here in socal right in our backyard with artists such as Bassnectar and Glitch Mob, so it’s shaping up to be a pretty sick weekend.  Wanted to feed you some tunes to hold you over till the weekend.

First on controls is Breakage with a really large rave tune.  This fast paced stomper utilizes jungle snares and 4 on the floor kick beats to really set the seen for a rave type anthem here.  Big up Breakage for the tune title Telepathy.

Next we got Guido accompanied by Jay Wilcox on mic control putting forth a fresh tune titled Flow.  When I come across a new Guido tune I haven’t heard I get pretty excited because there’s nothing standard about his sound.  Each new beat I hear by him brings something fresh to the table, which is one of the hardest things to do well as an artist in my opinion.  The instrumental version is pretty easy to find as well if your not a fan of hearing vocals on the tune.

K well thats all for now.  Things have been majorly busy so sorry for not getting you guys more material but wanted to get you couple tunes to hold you over. Cheers!

Bless,

Straight Cruising

Ey bredren,

Hope its been a swell Thursday.  Lots going on this weekend, I’d like to fast forward 24 hours, and have it be Friday night already.

I’m pretty psyched for this weekend because lots of music is involved.  Saturday night, I’m seeing Roger Water’s The Wall Live which should be real trippy if yadidmean ehhhh.  And on Sunday night young bossman Rustie is paying LA a visit to blast us away on the F1.  Amongst the loads of tunes from his Glass Swords album that I can’t wait to hear, I think this newer remix he did for Surkin titled Lose Yourself will really get the crowd to go buck.  Should be a solid night no doubt.

As far as tracks I’ve been vibing to the last couple of days, Kromestar & Jay 5ive are top of the list.  They dropped a release this week with two tunes title Backwoods and Deepest Fears.  Backwoods has this feel to it hard for me to put into words, I almost want to call it aqua lounge or something haha.  Just has a nice cruiser feel too it, real spacey and atmospheric.  Deepest Fears is mellow as well but the quick snares give it a more upbeat feel than Backwoods.  This one has that classic Kromestar bassline push accompanied with what sounds like a quire humming in the background at times.  While these tunes have had clips uploaded on soundcloud for a while, it’s sick to hear their full flavor.

Speeding things up a bit, Dub Phizix dropped a video this week for the release of his new tune called Never Been feat. Fox. A half step stomping riddim, you can feel the dance hall influences in this one.  Dub Phizix has been absolutely killing in the last year, and I don’t see the guy stopping anytime soon.  Big up!

Check back tomorrow for more new material.  Make sure to participate in you individual music scenes when you can.

Cato On Soulful Vibes/6Blocc Getting Rootsy

Eyyyyy fam we’re back checking in after a sunny weekend here in Cali.  From the looks of it there’s lots of new music on the horizon, I guess as always, but a couple tunes that specifically got me excited and through the intro phase of the week.  Per the usual style, I’ll try to bring you a eclectic blend.

I felt real blessed to wake up Monday and see the Inna Riddim camp hyping a new one ripped from Hatcha’s Kiss Radio show.  The tune by Cato titled Have I Told You is a spicy new soul riddim that is absolute fire in my opinion.   The type of vibe with the proper low end accompanied by the soul man vocal equates to perfection in my book.  I’ve had this one on repeat for the last two days.  It’s rumoured that Cato will be releasing new material through Hatcha in the near future so hold tight!

Next up repping the roots culture we have a recent release on Moonshine Recordings.  The tune comes from West Coast badman 6Blocc titled pressure dub.  With a stomping kick drum and anchoring rasta drum accompanied with Jamalski on the mic, this one is definitely a dance floor tune.  Big up to 6Blocc for bringing a sick one to the table.

That’s all I got for you tonight.  I’m headed out to see a sick New York based band called Light Asylum.  Stay locked for more tunes this week.  As always thanks!

Forthcoming: Sparxy – Mr. Robot EP

Yo whats good everybody?! Back today with a feature on an artist and his label’s massive forthcoming release, PORK006 aka the ‘Mr. Robot EP’. The artist is Sparxy and at the forefront of his label, Bacon Dubs, he has recently taken the bass world to the mat in a round of heave-ho that’s shaking monitors around the globe.

Sparxy’s upcoming release, the ‘Mr. Robot EP’, out May 14th, is definitely one to consider if you find yourself lost on the net. Sparxy’s been moving up the ranks in the bass world and with his label, Bacon Dubs behind him, we can rest assured that the world will be a much heavier place. Recently getting spins on Skream and Benga’s BBC Radio 1 show, Sparxy is reaching milestones most dubstep producers dream of. Crunchy synths, sharp rhythm and heavy bass are a few words that come to mind when listening to his tracks.

His upcoming Mr. Robot EP demonstrates Sparxy’s fearlessness to let synths cutoff a bit higher and let things get weird. The title track goes in as if it were constructed by a hooded robot with a lighter for a thumb on one hand and a permanent gun finger salute on the other. This dancefloor rumbler comes at listeners with straight forward percussion, sharp LFO’s and essential bass. All these elements come together for a tight-fitting track sure to snuggle nicely in your DJ bag .  The next track, ‘Taser’, at moments can be electrifying.  Catching listeners by surprise with a multitude of eerie and extra large synths, the track comes as a no-brainer for the deep DJ and is probably our favorite track from the EP. The last track is a moody/weighty number titled ‘Shallow Grave’ that builds over time to create an eyes-down jammer.  In this track, Sparxy has fun with modulating and undulating basses, an experience which is easily transferred to the listener. Peep the EP below and go when it comes out on May 14th.

Release Highlight – Asa & Stumbleine Your Secret EP

Hello fellow brothers and sisters. Hope your weekend was everything you needed to focus on the things that bring balance to your life.  Last night Kinman and myself embarked on some bass-ridden madness as we stomped it out in proper fashion to ultra selector J:Kenzo.  Big up to the SMOG family for booking him and letting him rinse out on a proper system, it was definitely a night of high grade riddims.  Kenzo displayed his mastery at his art as he smashed in one tune after another.  He laid the intro of his set with a tune that spoke to the crowd in almost hypnotic brainwashing sense, with creepy computerized vocals leading into a smashing low end foundation.  he played tune after tune that I’d never heard before, tunes that hopefully we’ll see in circulation in the near future.  Highlight tunes that I could actually remember included LX One – You VIP, some big ass Kenzo tune with Footsie spitting over it, and the massive Distance remix of Ruffhouse.  All in all Kenzo displayed flawless skills mixing in one bassline after another.  It was a big night, big up to J:Kenzo and Kelly Dean from Smog for bringing heat to the speaker boxes.

With that out of the way, I want to introduce a couple artists we’ve never mentioned before and highlight their 5 track EP that dropped today.  On a beautiful, soulful, mellow tip this album is a great way to start the week and focus on all the beauty around you.  Introducing, Asa & Stumbleine, UK based artists hailing from Bristol; their EP Your Secret released today on Inspected Records and it is one that you should definitely lend an ear to.  Every tune on the album brings something unique to the table while maintaining an essential central theme that’s displayed by their style of production.  This is atmospheric, emotionally provoking music that displays a truly high calibre of musical showmanship.

The first tune titled Vapour opens the album with a soft trickling snare lead into a lovely string composure and light cracking drum pattern with background echoing vocals.  For 7 minutes the tune takes you to another place as the atmospheric ambiance provokes you to think.  The next tune Glow, finds its base around a solid kick drum and a looping vocal sample.  The piano and low end strings guide the tune continuing the journey.  The third tune titled Tourniquet displays collaborating vocals from Shura & Coma.  As the keys and strings build in the middle of the tune the vocals mesh with the bass line to push things to another level.  Tinderbox, the fourth tune on the EP, is the mellowest tune of the bunch in my opinion.  Amazing quality, reminds me of a rainy day.  Without You, the last tune, has a lot of low end pressure with a steady bass line filling the speakers controlling the vibe of the tune.  The tune steadily builds until around the 4 minute mark where it slowly leads the listener out the dream, with rain falling in the background.  This is a great EP and an amazing display of a lot of skill and emotion put into every tune.  Be sure to give it a good listen and go out and support the artists by purchasing the record.

Asa, Stumbleine – Your Secret EP

Big up to Asa & Stumbleine. You can bet that we will be following closely these two and hopefully have some new material or an interview feature with them in the near future.  I’ll leave all our family off today with a free tune by them that they upped on their soundcloud a couple months back.  An original by Stumbleine titled More Than Words with Asa on the remix.

.

Make sure to big up Asa & Stumbleine for the freebie.  Hope you enjoyed the post, thanks as always for checking in!
