Olie Bassweight FREEBIE!

Yo what up fam!  I usually like to take the weekends off from the site but I was contacted by Olie last night and I didn’t want to hold off until Monday for this one.  He has been generous enough to share this remix he recently did with us and all of his fans.

This jam is a soulful stepper riddim’.  Beautiful vocals and grooved out drum sequencing set the stage for a combination of hard-hitting sub frequencies and a piano riff that will hit home for anybody.

Enjoy the tune, big up Olie, and spread the sounds!  We will see you back tomorrow.

Vibration Lab Sets The Weekend Off Right

What’s going on bredren?!  That’s right, Friday is finally here – thank jah.  As Lowkey said yesterday it has been really hectic for all of us the past couple weeks with work, school, life, our own musical commitments, etc., so we apologize for the days that lacked posts.  We are doing our best to keep it in a daily fashion, though, so don’t hate 🙂

Today I wanted to highlight a feature that hit the shelves/web today.  It seemed the perfect compilation to set the weekend off with the right kind of vibes.  Hailing from the boys over at Vibration Lab, this EP is jam-packed full of proper Reggae vibes and includes remixes by some really amazing artists.  The EP, titled ‘Tribulation Time’, features vocals from a very prominent figure in Reggae/Dub history, Linval Thompson.  This guy has worked with Scratch Perry, and has produced albums for Eek-A-Mouse, Freddie McGregor, and The Wailing Souls (to name a few).  Not to mention that a lot of the Scientist’s early work was based off of Thompson’s sound.  A true legacy this man is.  But anyways, back to the EP:

The Vibration Lab originals are top-notch digi-dub productions.  You can feel the organic warmth of the old school dub styles, despite it’s digital composition (big up the sound crew for that!).  Thompson’s vocals are extremely uplifting and really hit deep in your soul.  The beat itself brings you back, man.  Closing my eyes I felt like I was sitting in a smoke filled room just smiling and looking around, seeing everyone else smiling and laughing with each other.  Really feeling these jams.

As for the remixes, I’m going to take straight from the press release because I think it is a perfect introduction for the artists involved:

“When it came time to figure out who we wanted to remix this project two names came to mind. First, RSD aka Rob Smith aka Smith & Mighty, who was an original inspiration for our sound and whose records like ‘Kingfisher’ ‘Forward Youth’ and ‘Jah Way’ showed us the possibilities. The other was an artist named Radikal Guru, who was also an early influence for Vibration Lab with tracks like ‘Rudeboy Skank/Kingston Town’ and ‘Strong Dub’.  We really felt blessed when they both agreed to do it and the results blew our mind! The significant thing about this project is that all the mixes have their own unique sound and all our outstanding! Next we found two Dub Stars of the future, Riddim Tuffa who have been blazing up the the scene with their special Digi-Dub style and fashion and the incredible Adam Prescott who has been remixing the likes of Mungos Hi-Fi and making dubs with Brother Culture and Daddy Freddy. “

.

All I have to add to this is that the interpretations of Radikal Guru and RSD are seriously unreal.  Take a listen for yourselves and YOU be the judge.

Like I said, this release hit the stores today, so make sure that you show some support to these guys.  Available in digital format and limited vinyl (500).  If you want the vinyl before anyone else shoot them an email direct at vibrationlabsound@gmail.com and order direct, using paypal.

Hope these tunes put a smile on your face like they did to mine.  May the vibes be strong this weekend, we’ll see you on Monday.

Massive shout to Vibration Lab, big up to Radikal Guru, one out to RSD, Adam Prescott and Riddim Tuffa.  All parties involved in this release deserve love.  A seriously big one.

Proper Riddims – Joker, Lung & Stinkahbell

Yo fam.  Been a busy week for us here at BWS, personal goals and responsibilities have made it a bit difficult to balance time spent listening to tunes and putting up posts.  Bear with us, the posts will remain constant.  With that said, hope the week has been solid.  This weekend we have big things happening in LA with J:Kenzo paying us a visit on Sunday night, so hold for a review on that.

This week saw the release of new Joker music on his label Kapsize.  Joker is a producer I probably respect above most others, so new material by him is always a treat.  As the 8th release on Kapsize, Joker brings about some major pressure through the tunes Skitta and I Think You Should Know.  With help from Newham Generals on the Vocals I Think You Should Know shows some gangsterous flavours.  Skitta is a hard hitter, mixed about by Jokers widely trademarked snares.  Have a listen these tunes are big.

On a much mellower tip, an ambient tune that recently caught my ear and was released on vinyl last week is a tune by Lung titled Sky People.  Lung always delivers the most relaxing, yet danceable high grade rhythms.  Sky People takes you on a journey from the start, leading you into heady spaced out contentment.  Not one for the Friday night dancefloor, but a great one for a lounge type atmosphere or even early night foundation.  Big up to lung for the smooth sailing.

Lastly, on a the lower spectrum of things, Stinkahbell has done a remix for Von D on his tune Set Me Free with Phephe on vocals.  The tune has a nice vocal intro with hard hitting snares complemented by some deep weight.  With a mixture of different melodies coming in and out of the tune, the variety provides a nice blend for the ears.  Look out for the forthcoming release on Boka.

Thanks for checking in and if you’re up for it spread some BWS love and share these tune with some friends!

Monday Recovery: Congi & Gantz, Sleeper, Quantum Soul & Linden, and Existance

Bless up all the readers.  Hope everyone had a dope weekend.  I was out in Joshua Tree, CA watching some of the most insane fire dancing I’ve ever seen.  Some people are straight up insane, it’s so awesome.  Needless to say, it was a really interesting experience.  Lot’s of fun.  But anyways, I got some really huge tracks lined up for tonight!

Gonna start things off today with a 170 tune that Quantum Soul alongside Linden have forthcoming.  This one has got some seriously mystical vibes to it.  Definitely one of my favorite 170 tracks that I’ve heard lately.

Quantum Soul & Linden – Tradition

.

Sleeper has honestly been on a non-stop production binge for the past 6 months, at least, and has served up a really dark, lost in space typed vibe on this one with some kick drums that send power through your entire body.  It’s only a very short clip unfortunately but hopefully we’ll see it get a release soon!

Sleeper – Shook

.

The badmen over at Innamind Recordings Congi and Gantz are back on the track together and they are bringing some extremely hard-hitting basslines, grooved out percussion sequences, and sexy ass vocals with them.  This new bit, called ‘Warrior’, is set to release May 5th on Innamind as part of the Cave Dance EP so make sure that you snag this one up on Saturday!  Massive shout to AJP for the upload, high quality is a standard at this point.

.

Gonna finish today off with another AJP upload, from an artist who has adopted to monicker Existance.  This track, called ‘Waking Life’, is a serious soul jam.  I would love to see this get a vinyl release because I would snag it up in a heartbeat!  Hold tight for the second drop, it’s too much!  Big up to Existance, I’ll be keeping my eyes on you.  Check out his other tunes on his Soundcloud below as well.  Free download business all over his page.

.

.

That’s all I got for today!  Tired and busy, life is killing me right now.

To the gods.

Thursday Skank

Sup fam.  Figured we would throw two at you in one day since we were in too much pain all week to get anything up M-W.  Festival season has officially begun haha.

First up we will start off a sick little dancey number that’s being given to you completely freeeee!  The tune titled Forest Floor comes at us from producer duo Daega Sound.  Really sick tune in my opinion.  Definitely going to need to watch out for Daega Sound over the next year and their recently started record label Fathom Recordings.

Daega Sound – Forest Floor ***Free Download***

.

Next up is a recently released chiller set of tunes by artist My Nu Leng on Mindstep Music.  The release titled Time Goes By features three great tunes all on a mellow vibe.  The title tune is my favorite, with the J-One Remix being great as well.  Have a look here and be sure to big up them on the FB for the recent release.

My Nu Leng – Time Goes By

.

Last up is a tune that’s been in circulation for sometime but was recently announced to be a bonus track on Soap Dodgers forthcoming release titled Unleashed.  The tune of highlight is called unbalanced and it’s full bassweight pressure.  Big business on this tune no doubt, and bit time release to come.  Keep your eyes peeled.

.

That’s it.  Hope you enjoyed.

Make sure you check back tomorrow as we have an amazing interview with an up-and-coming artist who has been kind enough to give all you readers THREE songs for download, exclusively through BWS.  We’ve already gotten to listen and ALL three of them are beautifully deep tunes that will set your mind right!  Respect.

Stay blessed,
-Lowkey
