DJ Tennis and his Life & Death imprint have been an enduring theme in my construct of intentional and moving music for the past few years now.  The vision he seems to put forth in both the aesthetic of the sound and presence of the label is something I deeply admire.  My most fond memories of recent with regard to musical performances have been in the company of Life & Death artists.  Tennis’s set at the Need You party in January 2012 remains one of the most magnificently salient memories I have, and when I heard he will be passing through LA this Sunday I was immediately elated.  To top things off, I just received news he will be releasing a double EP mid-April.

DJ Tennis will release a double EP in April called Local…Local will come out on DJ Tennis’s Life And Death imprint, and it’ll be the first double EP for the artist—real name Manfredi Romano—as well as the label. Described in a press release as a “musical diary,” its six original tracks see Romano, who’s taken on an increasingly busy gigging schedule over the past couple years, drawing inspiration from six different locales: Williamsburg, New York; Kreuzberg, Berlin (where his studio is located); Milan; South Beach, Miami; Hackney, London; and Palermo, Sicily. He’s provided his own vocals as well as bass and guitar work, and first track “Love Child” features an appearance from The Rapture’s Luke Jenner. A remix from US producer North Lake completes the package. It’ll be made available on double vinyl and as a digital release, with each version apparently “slightly different” from the other.”

Tracklist
01. Love Child featuring Luke Jenner
02. Floating Boy/Self Portrait
03. You Closed My Eyes
04. Anatomy
05. Williamsburg
06. Ah Isobel
07. Anatomy (North Lake Remix)

East End Dubs – ‘Raised By Wolves’ EP

EED EP

.

East End Dubs has been one of the most exciting producers for me to watch over the past year.  The man’s amazing production skill shines through every track he puts out, as I’m sure the same goes for the arsenal of beats he keeps exclusively for his live performances.  While there is nothing new about deep/tech house or techno, there is a freshness within in his sound that permeates through a combination of spacious textures, amazingly concise drum construction, and simple yet brooding sub-bass engineering.  His elusiveness is also another factor that surrounds his sound with enigma and curiosity.  He steers clear of the bullsh*t, and does nothing but put out tune after tune alongside his touring schedule.  After releasing exclusively within his self-titled imprint for close to a year, he garnered his first release solo release with Kote Records in December of 2012, and has since released a EP’s on Act Natural Records and Metroline Ltd.  His beat ‘Argo’ off the Metroline release has seen copious amounts of support from the likes of scene don DJ W!ld among many others.

The release I’m highlighting today is another four-track EP set to release on his East End Dubs imprint (vinyl only) at the end of September.  ‘Brooklyn’ is a tune I’ve been after since hearing it in one of his monthly mixes, and I’m ecstatic that I will finally own it soon.  Take a listen below and go give this badman some support by liking his pages.  Also, if you like what you here be sure to follow his Soundcloud as his monthly mixes are a great way to receive previews of his forthcoming sounds ;).

Paleman’s FACT Mix, Adana Twins ft. Digitaria, & PBR Streetgang

fact paleman

Big up everyone.  Following suit from last weeks announcement that Tuesday will now be featuring sound falling under the deep/tech house, or anything in the 120 arena that fits into the Bassweight Society aesthetic, I’ve got a few pieces that I wanted to feature tonight.  I don’t have a lot to say tonight as I’m utterly exhausted from work and school but I’ll do my best to keep you from snoring while reading my comments 😉

The first thing worth mentioning is the most recent FACT Magazine podcast mixed by one of my favorite artists of 2012 – Paleman.  This guy has been on a hyper-accelerated rise in the ranks among house and techno heads for the past year/year-and-a-half, and his mixing and production skills attest as to why.  With support from key influences like Zed Bias, Damu, and Loefah it’s a sure-shot that Paleman will be all over house head radar’s throughout 2013.  According to FACT, he will releasing a collaborative track with Zed Bias, and will also be “working closely” with Loefah’s new imprint – ‘School’ (Check the FACT feature —> HERE).  Anyways, I hope you’re ready to rave out because this mix is definitely jam-packed with loads of energy featuring unreleased music from Artifact, Thefft, and Zed Bias.

.

Next piece I’ve got for you is the most recent release from the notorious Adana Twins with their single ‘Reaction’, featuring Digitaria.  “I just need some action.  People are insane.”  This one is nothing short of f*cking BRILLIANT.  Ordered myself one as soon as it came up on Chemical and I can’t wait to spin this record at the next PULSE! night.  It’s backed with the instrumental but, let’s be serious, how could you choose the instrumental over the vocal version?!  Here’s the link to purchase off Chemical, get it while it lasts! —–> BUY LINK

.

The last bit for tonight is a remix that is forthcoming on Hot Creations, due out February 25th.  The release features beats from the German producer Butch, along with remixes from PBR Streetgang, Maceo Plex, and Miguel Campbell.  PBR Streetgang has remixed ‘Faith ft. Benjamin Franklin’ and it’s in the always funky fashion that this duo has stapled in their sound.  Really can’t wait to pick this one up once it drops.  Have a listen below.

Hope you enjoyed the sex from your speakerbox.  I’ll catch you next time.

One love.
