Vaun & Animai – ‘Taking Over’ [Mindstep]

Taking Over Artwork--1020px

Big up everyone, thanks for checking again.

Today I want to shed light on the forthcoming Mindstep Music release from Vaun & Animai, featuring three stellar remixes from Wayfarer, Simbad and Sam KDC.  Animai’s hauntingly beautiful voice has received much acclaim in the underground electronic music scene, especially with her integral role in Wayfarer’s chart-smashing composition, ‘Reflections’, featured on the ‘Live From The Future’ LP under Uprise Audio’s umbrella.  With Vaun’s residency in Bristol and the influence brought by such a flowering mecca of musical prowess, he has harnessed a distinct and soulful sound.  Add Animai’s history of involvement with soul and jazz music, and these two together on the track was a match made in the stars.

The accompanying remixes cover an array of stylistic approach, crossing genre and tempo barriers.  Wayfarer’s stripped back construction with snarls placed sparsly amidst his signature thundering drums, Simbad’s ethereal transformation, and Sam KDC’s halftime construction drenched in a pool of sub warmth, all compliment and maintain the original’s emotive vibe.

Full previews have yet to be released but, Deeper Vibrations have been given the pleasure of hosting an exclusive full-length version of ‘Taking Over’ from the originators.  Have a listen below and stay locked with Mindstep, Vaun and Animai for further release details.  ***UPDATE 11/15/13: Full previews have been released – see below***

Ten Walls – ‘Requiem’ EP [LAD013]

Ten Walls Requiem EP Art

Ten walls have returned fresh off the hype of their ‘Gotham’ EP released on Innervisions earlier this year that took the summertime by storm and reached anthemic status, being rinsed and praised by countless DJ’s across the globe – with good reason, too.  As the mysterious moniker pushes his sound further, striving to maintain a concept in which “the focus is moved away from the personality of the artist so that the music can more directly speak for itself”, I can only hope that the execution of his productions are maintained.  Some of the most emotive and powerful house music being released right now; music actually deserving of the “deep” descriptor being so frivolously tossed around the house/techno scene over the past year.  Take a listen below, I hope you enjoy.

Release Date:  Digital – November 4th / Vinyl – December 9th

Taiko – Exclusive ‘Live From The Future’ Mix Pt.1

UA LFTF

Big up fam’.

Monday (the 7th) is a big day for the 2012 freshman imprint of the year – Uprise Audio, and for dubstep as a whole.  With a string of releases that have each sat comfortably at the top of dubstep charts across the board, it’s no secret that Edward and Verity have curated one of the most promising musical outlets within the global underground.  Through these releases Dubtek, Asylum and the boss himself, Seven, have left bread crumbs leading listeners through cavernous sonic explorations – all leading up to this.  ‘Live From The Future’ is the imprint’s debut full-length album showcasing a roster of veteran dynamism, pioneering through the depths of dubstep sound design.  The LP welcomes back Asylum, Dubtek, Wayfarer, Chewie, Klax and Seven, while popping the Uprise cherries of Taiko, Truth, Stealth, Altair, and Nanobyte.

To celebrate the album’s release, Uprise Audio artist Taiko has been so kind as to build you (the readers) an exclusive mix.  I’ve been blaring this thing out for the past couple of weeks, and have been genuinely enjoying the top-notch track selection and blending.  I was lucky enough to grab a few words from the badman himself regarding the mix and his beat ‘Spray Can’ that was included on  the LP.  Take a read below!

.

Kinman:  EZ Louis, thanks for taking some time out for the readers. Can you tell us a little bit about the mix you have built? Some DJ’s try to facilitate a very calculated energy dynamic within their mixing, while others just blend tunes that sound good together. What’s the story behind this one?

Taiko:  No worries, happy to! Yeah I’d have to say a bit of both to be honest, I wouldn’t say it was calculated that much but I wanted to start it fairly slow and techy, and beef it up a bit towards the end, I guess any form of progression is good for a mix to keep it interesting. But it’s a small selection of my favourite tunes at the moment and you can hear a few of the forthcomings for the UA album too.

Kinman:  It must be an honor to be part of the Uprise family – especially as the imprint progressively garners more respect with each release. How did you get linked up with Eddy and the label?

Taiko:  I first met Eddy about 2 or 3 years ago when I was playing regularly in Sheffield. He came down to play one time and after the night we got talking, swapped details, then I’d send him a tune every now and again. About a year later he came down again and it was about the time he was starting Uprise if I remember correctly so luckily I had my laptop with me and burnt him a cd. A few months and a few tunes later I was brought along so big thanks to Ed and V as always.

.

Kinman:  Are there any plans for a solo-release with Uprise in the near future? Any hints you can give us?

Taiko:  Yeah I haven’t got a set date for anyone but early next year I have a 4 track EP on vinyl and digital coming out. I’ve started shortlisting a few tunes so hopefully when the time comes you’ll be getting the best of the bunch, that’s all I can say I’m afraid!

Kinman:  Haha no sweat bro, fully understand!

Kinman:  Lastly, can you tell us a bit about the song you’ve written to include in the ‘Live From The Future’ LP?

Taiko:  My addition to the album is called ‘Spray Can’, and all I can say really is that I tried to write something keeping unconventional in mind. I’ve also had people saying that I’ve sampled a 400ml can for it and this and that but honestly there’s no spray can samples in the entire tune, I only came up with the name for it once I stopped and thought “that sounds a lot like a spray can”. Hope everyone enjoys the album, big thanks to Tyler (Kinman) and all the readers!

Jamie Ward – ‘The Wrong Turn’ EP [Kote Records]

Kote Records.

EZ everyone. I’ve got a deep-tech release that has been circulating through my monitors the past couple of weeks. Jamie Ward, who heads up Act Natural Records, has built four tracks for the underground imprint, Kote Records based out of London. Having spent the last couple years curating the releases for Act Natural –  signing artists East End Dubs, DJ W!ld, and Chris Lattner among others, Jamie has  developed an ear for excellence when it comes to stripped-back, quality deep-tech sounds. Bringing his impeccable palette and production quality to Kote, Jamie lays down a collection of spacious and dark constructions, fueling any dancefloor into early morning hours.  Ward joins the Kote roster alongside John Monkman, Sek, and Philip Ort, furthering the label’s reputation of cutting-edge music.  Have a listen below.

LX One – ‘Scary People/Why’ [WHLYDLY]

WHEELYDEALY040D

Big up fam’

I’m finally back from my desert hiatus, feeling realigned and fuming with more motivation towards positivity than I’ve ever felt prior in my life.

I’ve got a release that played a huge role in my desert experience as I was constantly blaring it throughout the week, swaying my body through the dust storms and feeling as if I was roaming a completely different planet.  The vocal and production don – LX One – comes correct with another dose of his signature swinging grooves and subtlety twisted mid-frequencies.  Marking his third return to N-Type’s Wheal & Deal label, following ‘You/Give It Up’ and ‘Losing Control/On My Own’ dropped in 2011 and 2012, respectively, both ‘Scary People’ and ‘Why’ exhibit LX’s affliction for halfstep beat construction and spaciously impactful sub-bass presence.  The A-side is a strict roller with the kick energy and heavily modulated bassline creating an aesthetic similar to what I imagine evading a gang of goons through an underground tunnel would produce.  Maybe?  ‘Why’ takes on a more percussive character with the generous application of subtle drum and atmosphere tracks, providing perpetual movement in the groove.

There is also a massive treat for the listeners that buy through the Wheal & Deal Surus store, as ‘You VIP’ has been included as a digital exclusive to all purchases made through Surus.  ‘You’ was one of my favorite tracks from 2011, so to have the VIP in my possession is a dope feeling, and I’m sure many of you will feel the same 🙂

The release dropped today and is available for purchase through all major record retailers, both vinyl and digital.  I’ve provided some links below as well as a preview to the release.  Hope you enjoy!
