Serious Bassweight Business

Oi! We’re back again with another installment of some of the finest bassweight business being pushed out right now. Obviously we can’t highlight ALL of the quality material being put out right now but we got some really great music for you today. Trying to keep things fresh we have tunes from all different ends of the spectrum. Everything from vocal-drenched to techno-infused.

The first track is one from a man who has finally emerged out of the shadows, beginning to receive that recognition that has been much deserved for the past 5 years or so. With his debut full-length album due out early April, DJ Madd has been boosting bass bins with his extremely powerful sounds. Having had the support of many of today’s highest caliber producers and pretty much every top-notch radio show, Madd’s presence had become quite the force to reckon with. We have previously highlighted the tune ‘Riginal’ and ‘Deeply’ Ft. Lady Maroo, both part of his album, and today we have another gem from the The Real and The Shadow LP. This one, titled ‘No Tomorrow’, features the unforgettable vocal presence of the one and only, Rebel MC. This tune is an absolute gem so lend an ear!

.

Coming at you for the second tune is one from Orientis Recordings label boss, Thelem. This guy makes some of the deepest of deep tunes. The track, ‘Cathetus’, is no exception. Utilizing his skills at incorporating some of the illest growls and horns, Thelem builds this one up to be an absolute smasher for all the heads. The double-kick keeps the energy of the tune high while his master-crafted soundscapes incite some truly eerie vibes through your mind. Big up to Thelem!

.

This next bit is another one from our good friends, Truth. I honestly don’t understand how these guys keep putting out the number of bangers that they do. Especially amidst the devastation their home has seen in the past year due to a relentless amount of earthquakes pounding through. These two are a true inspiration. This tune, taken from Yunx’s show yesterday, left me speechless. HUGE rolling rave synths layered up with that wall of sub-frequencies that this duo always brings equates to one of the largest tunes of 2012 thus far. Nuff’ respect!

.

Next, we have another huge one from Percept. This track is an absolute skank-out tune! Forthcoming on Innamind, ‘Boxed In’ shows his very promising style and skill. Percept is definitely one of the artists you are going to want to keep your eyes during 2012, he is sure to emerge with a highly respected presence.

Percept – Boxed In (Forthcoming Innamind Records)

The final bit for today is a production hailing from the hands of LAXX, an Oxford based producer who is bringing a very techno-infused vibe to his tracks. The tune, titled ‘System Meltdown’, comes at you hard with a 4×4 beat that will straight MASH-UP the dance! We have really been feeling this particular vibe that producers like LAXX and Killawatt have been putting out. It’s a really fresh take on things. Have a listen and show the man some love!

That’s it for today.

Bristol Bad Man: Guido

Blessings!

We have a big mix coming at you today from Bristol bad man Guido.  Done for Fact Magazine, this mix is packed full of exclusives from the likes of Joker, Baobinga, and Gemmy.  The mix is nothing short of absolutely sick.  Guido really showcases his skills at mixing throughout.  As a producer, dj, and now record label boss, Guido’s made a name for himself across the bass music world.  From his brilliant debut album, Anidea, to his recently started label State of Joy, Guido has consistently raised the bar.  We highlighted the first release on State of Joy a few weeks back titled ‘Micro X/Vessel Dogs’ by none other than the big boss himself, and are excited to see further tunes released on this imprint.  Make sure to listen for the After Light >>> Get Out My Head (Joker Remix) mix, it’s wicked.

Guido – FACT Mix 313

Tracklist:
State Of Joy Rough Intro
Guido & Baobinga featuring Buggsy – Ballin’ VIP
Baobinga & I.D. – Elastic

Redlight – Get Out My Head (Joker remix)
Janelle Monae – Many Moons
Stargate – Black and Yellow Instrumental
Baobinga & Guido – IceBlack
Missy Elliott – Hit ‘Em Wit Da Hee (feat. Lil’ Kim)
Interface Feat. William Cartwright – Truth Beyond (Clear Skyz)
Rob Smith – Golden Vision
Type Sun – Last Home
Nosaj Thing – Night Crawler
Laszlo – Lydias Dream (Lydian Label)

Along with the mix here are a few tunes Guido’s been giving away for free.  We really appreciate the eclectic style he brings to the table.  His music is outside the boundaries of being labeled within just one genre.  It’s creative, unique, well composed, and displays his fundamental skills as a songwriter.  The first tune titled ‘U Neeq’, is unique no doubt.  The tune has a really chilled out vibe, but is super danceable as well.  The melodies put you into an almost trance like state.  I’d imagine it’d be a sick tune to have jamming while on a nice drive.  Grab it, it’s free!

Guido – U Neeq

.

The next tune is more upbeat, incorporating a combination of fast hitting snares and juggling drum beats.  Of course in spot on Guido style, synths are layered throughout making the tune harmonious to listen to.  What a jolly good fella to give it away for free.

Guido – Green Carpet

.

The last freebie is one that he incorparted into his Fact mix above.  The tune, titled ‘Ice Black’, is a collaboration with Baobinga.  The tune definitely takes you on a journey, with beats constantly changing.  It’s a worthwhile 3:40 of listening pleasure.

Guido & Baobinga – Ice Black

.

Always big up the artists.  We bring this to you because we love what they do.

Keep lurkin’.

Smooth Ride Into The Weekend

We’ve made it through another week.  The weekend is here and it’s that time for us to freely do as we please, taking advantage of all the weekend has to offer.  Maybe it’s going to a show, or making tunes, or just straight relaxing.  Whatever your flavor we got some tunes to get things going for you tonight.  With not much to say on this Friday, we’ll let the tunes speak for themselves and set the vibes for a solid weekend ahead.

Original don El-b comes at us with the first skanker, a fully loaded dance floor riddim.  Accurately titled ‘Romp’, this one is a stomper no doubt.

El-b – Romp

.

The next heavyweight is by bad boy Cyrus who never disappoints when laying down low frequency riddims.  The tune ‘Hot Pan’ has been in circulation for sometime now, but sees a release this week.  Be sure to turn that sub up as this one is sure to wake up the granny downstairs.

.

Had to throw a dub tune in to send you off on good vibes.  This week sees a release on King Dubbist records with a tune by Chezidek called ‘The Place’.  The album showcases 5 different artists including west coast badman Roommate, and is sure to set minds straight.  Have a listen, its crystal clear.

Deeper & Darker Directions

What up everybody.  This week has been kinda sparce so we apologize about that.  But today we have some truly dark tracks to highlight.  All of these tunes are strictly for sound systems.

As Skream so eloquently put it “if you have no sub theres no point listening”.  So, as given away with the quote, the first track we have for you today is from the Godfather himself.  This tune embodies the side of Skream that we just can’t get enough of!  Sidestepping the aggressive, tear-out styles, he delves extremely deep into frequencies that literally cannot be heard without proper sound.  I listened to it on my laptop just to see what it would sound like and wondered how people can judge this type of music without actually hearing it.  Nevertheless, the tune is a straight up lurker.  A track that pretty much says “eat shit all you haters, I’m still here”, to all the people criticizing his current ventures into mashing up dancefloors real heavy.

Skream – Dark Keys

.

Then we have a couple clips from the newest addition to the Deep Medi imprint, Dark Tantrums.  Other than release from Kromestar that this guy was featured on and Mala dropping his tune in that XLR8R mix last year, this character has just been off the radar, at least to us.  The release, ‘Unborn’/’Storm’, will be Deep Medi’s 54th release and is perfectly suiting for the imprint.  Both of the tunes are for the chestplate.  Unfortunately these are just short clips but be on the look for the full version once the release drops!

Dark Tantrums – Unborn/Storm

.

The next track is another from our friend Compa.  He is being generous enough to give this tune out for FREE so make sure you grab your copy before the download option gets it’s card pulled.  It’s a remix that Compa did of a tune by Skin E called ‘Reveal’.  Another extremely heavy production from the hands of Compa.  If you didn’t catch the interview we did with him back in November, check it out here, there is also an exlcusive mix he built for us available for download on that post.  When we did the interview we said that he was gonna be rising quick in the game and sure enough, over the past few months Compa has secured/cleared the shelves of a release with Boka Records and also launched his ‘Dem A Talk’ remix on white label and that too flew off the shelves in a matter of hours.  A lot of good things to be coming from this guy so make sure to keep your eyes on him.

Skin E – Reveal (Compa Remix) **FREE DOWNLOAD**

.

Then to ease things off we have a mix that Killawatt did for Outlook 2012, filled with 100% Killawatt productions.  One of the most innovative and amazing producers out there right now, hands down.  Fusing sounds together with an insurmountable amount of force.  Pushing boundaries, creating new levels, and holding the throne to some of the most amazing percussion in his music.  Massive up to Killawatt and his recent success.

Killawatt – Outlook 2012 Mix (Download Available)

.

Alright fam that’s some of the latest that we’ve got for you this time around.  We will see you tomorrow with some more music to move through your bass bins.  If you haven’t visited our Facebook page check that out, there is a lot of stuff posted on that as well.  Respect.

To the gods.

Valentines Day, Love Sick Style

Image

Happy valentines day everybody!  For those of you that insist on incessantly whining about about this holiday, SUCK IT UP.  Despite the days beautiful display of consumerism, deceit, and misinterpretations, valentines day is a day for lovers.  Love is one of the greatest things about being human.  Or maybe I should say the ability we have to experience/identify any sort of emotion is one of the greatest things about being human.  But that’s neither here nor there.  Let’s get back to the Love.  Valentines day can incite a lot of different reactions among those who share it with their “special someone”; excitement towards the love they have, frustration about the financial journey they must embark, or confusion about what to get, to name a few.  I feel like the whole extravagant gift thing has been taken a bit overboard nowadays but, I mean, at this point I think I would be more caught off guard if our country had a holiday in which tempting citizens with screaming deals wasn’t a major aspect.  With all the BS aside though, take the day as a day to be thankful for the loved ones you have in your life.  It’s not just a day for couples, it’s for everybody.  A lot of times people take what they have for granted and when it’s gone, it’s gone.  Let people know that they are important to you.  Relationships are an integral part of our psyche so doesn’t it seem reasonable that you would want to maintain it in a positive manner?

Today we have a special treat from the boys at Love Sick Recordings.  If you’ve been following this site you should remember that we did a piece on them back in November.  Take a look here, if you haven’t already read about it.  The label, collectively run by 4 artists, represents a style of bass music that is unique and amazing.  Today they have blessed us with a 5 track EP available for FREE download.  FREELUV001 contains songs that are absolutely beautiful.  We have tunes from Riskotheque, Deadbeat, Screen Age, Marchmellow, Max Mudie, and Southbound Hangers.  All of these tunes captures soul, groove, and funk, all necessary ingredients for the formula of love.  A perfect gift for this joyous occasion of valentines day.

1. Riskotheque & Deadbeat – Heartbreak

2. Machmellow – Morphing

3. Southbound Hangers – After Sun

4. Max Mudie – Cross My Mind

5. Screen Age – My Love

Give the boys over at Love Sick a big shout out for these tunes!  Hope you all have a great valentines day, and don’t be a sourpuss.
