Music For Your Mindstate: Techno To Tearout

Yup.  It’s Friday.  Such blessed days, Fridays are.  Just want to give a massive shout to all the heads that rolled through Bassweight Society presents Broken Note last night.  It was truly a great one.  I don’t think people were ready for the powerful sounds that Broken Note had up his sleeve.  Some of the most groundshaking, industrial-esque music I’ve heard, hands down.  He absolutely smashed the dance up!

Before you guys get your weekends started we have some killer tunes that have recently been put into circulation.

First two tracks are off of Boddika’s forthcoming Swamp 81 release that’s due out the 26th of March.  The A side, ‘Acid Jackson’, is MAADDDDD groovy!  Nothing less should ever be expected when Boddika gets on the buttons but, nevertheless, this tune is exceptionally large.  The flip, ‘Basement’, is another gem, straight up.  The synth moves your body for you, even if you’re too cool to skank.

Boddika – Acid Jackson/Basement (Forthcoming Swamp 81)

.

Next tune is another techno one from Sleeper.  Himself, alongside Killawatt, are a techno binge lately and honestly I can’t complain.  Sleeper’s minimal techno vibes are epic!  I mean we’re talking underground dungeon rave status.  No windows, no light, nothing but lasers and vibes.  The track is called ‘Telepathy’, highly recommend listening to this one with your sound at high output levels.

Sleeper – Telepathy

.

Alright, now we’re moving back into the 140 arena with Mensah’s forthcoming Deep Medi release, ‘The Gambia/The Trailing Moons of Saturn’.  This one like Boddika’s is due out March 26 and will no doubt fly off the shelves so, I recommend watching your preferred vinyl retailer very closely so you don’t miss out.  The first track, ‘The Gambia’, is a dark, tribal infused tune for the deep heads.  The percussion is huge on this track!  The Trailing Moons of Saturn is a mind raper.  It gives me the same vibes as a lot of Goth-Trad’s recent work.  Perfectly suiting for the Deep Medi imprint in my opinion.  Take a peak below, blud.

Mensah – The Gambia/The Trailing Moons of Saturn (Forthcoming Deep Medi)

.

The last track we’re going to leave you with is a recent collaboration between LAXX and Walsh, forthcoming on Wheel & Deal.  This one is a straight party tune.  These boys make their presence very well-known with this track as the gritty wobble comes through the speakers with ferocity and, most importantly, CONTROL.  Too much of the heavier stuff lately displays very poor production quality/sound design, but not with this track.  Quality in-your-face dubstep that will set the dance off without a doubt.  Respect to the boys!

LAXX & Walsh – Latest Tech (Forthcoming Wheel & Deal)

.

Alright goons, enjoy the sounds!  Big up the artists so they know their music is well-received.  BUY THEIR MUSIC!!!  Show some respect for the hours these guys put into pleasing our audible desires.  See you next week.  Stay safe and as always, RESPECT!

To the gods.

Big Sounds: Sleeper, Loadstar, Congi, Data & Alvarez, and Pressa

Easy all the heads. Halfway through the week, and I’m loving it! This weekend is going to be quite an epic one. Tomorrow night we have myself (Kinman) throwing down an all-vinyl set in Santa Barbara in support of Broken Note’s performance. If you’re going to be in town come check out the show! It’s free and Broken Note throws down really dope live shows with some truly powerful sound waves. It’s going to be at Eos Lounge on Anacapa, come kick it with the fam! Then, Saturday night we have Beyond Wonderland with the Hospital Records crew coming through in full-effect, Andy C the 3-deck master, Mistajam, Ed Rush & Optical, and Magnetic Man. Honestly haven’t been this excited for a show in a LONG time. It’s already a sold out show, those of you that got tickets, well played. If you don’t have tickets I would strongly suggest figuring out a way to get in because it’s going to be one for the record books.

In light of the rave this weekend, today’s music is a mixture of dubstep as well as drum and bass. Some top-notch music as always, so flip on the sub, light up the spliff, and get ready for today’s journey.

First tune that I want to highlight is an absolutely massive techno roller coming from the hands of Sleeper. The tune, titled ‘Oxygen’, would go hard in the airplane hangars that Saturdays event is held at. Pure minimalistic vibes and sub-pressure that can be felt miles away. Really can’t get enough of these percussive techno tunes that so many ‘dubstep’ artists are putting out lately. Quality material! Lend an ear below.

This next bit is another one from a man who has been so on top of his shit lately, Congi. Holding it down for the Macabre Unit crew HARD. The track we have from him today is titled ‘Cult’ and is forthcoming on Tribe12 Records. He utilizes a really clever and meaningful vocal sample that should resonate extremely well to the heads with strong ties to a proper soundsystem. The spliff directive mentioned above was primarily for this one 😉

Congi – Cult (Forthcoming Tribe12)

Pressa just recently dropped a 140 jungle tune called ‘Be With Me’. This one is for all the foot work crew! Displaying that classic vibe fused with modern sound. There seems to be a pretty big divide in peoples opinions about this stuff. Personally, I think it’s dope but I also understand the complaints of long-time junglists who feel it’s lost its authenticity. Each to his own, I guess. Anyways…..

Pressa – Be With Me

This next tune picks the tempo up a bit. A new one from Data & Alvarez that is just a skanker! The track’s titled ‘Resist’ and you can still make out the chant, faintly under the vocal processing. Hope you’re somewhere you can move your feet, this 170 business will get you going.

Data & Alvarez – Resist

.

The final track we’re going to leave you with is a remix Loadstar did for Noisia. It’s been out for a while so many of you have probably heard it but, it’s one of the few remixes of a Noisia tune that is even comparable to the next level business that they’re on. This track is an absolute anthem for the late nights with no sleep and and pure vibes.

Alright goons, see you next time. Respect.

Cato’s Funky Steppa EP, Camu, Stigma, & Gestalt

Eassssyyyyyyy people.  Hope this post is reaching you in good health and spirits!  I am absolutely exhausted from watching Breakage last night in Hollywood.   Up into the early hours of the morning.  Every time I see that man my level of respect jumps up immensely.  He is truly one of the sickest producers/DJ’s in the game.  His style of music is so unique, constantly coming at you with these huge 4×4 kick drums and some of the most ravey synths I have ever heard.  If any of you haven’t been lucky enough to see one his performances I HIGHLY recommend grabbing a ticket to his show next time he comes to your town.  He went into some jungle last night for about 15 minutes too and it was just straight vibes man.  It was really sick to see all these little kids who, for the most part, didn’t even know who he was just go nuts.  I mean honestly I don’t think you can resist brukking out to your fullest potential when he hops on the decks, his skills are unmatched.  Big up to the Bassrush crew for bringing him out to the Funktion Wednesday’s, BWS was there is full effect and had a blast.  Tonight, if you’re in the LA area I would highly recommend checking out Respect at the Dragonfly as Atlantic Connection will be headlining and that performance will most definitely be worth checking out!

Now, let’s get down to today’s music.  First up we have another release coming from the homies over at Inna Riddim.  The Funky Steppa EP, coming from new found talentCato, is filled with 4 tracks of varying stylistic approach, all real quality productions.  Personally, my favorite tune on this release is ‘Dizzy Cow’.  This tune comes with a mad funky drop that sets the dance up perfectly for footwork business!  Cato is definitely a guy to keep your eyes on because it’s very likely that he will be making big moves this year.  Very shortly after Inna Riddim snagged him up for this EP, N-Type took notice of Cato and signed the track ‘Who’s Cato’ to release on his 100% Pure Dubstep vol.2 compilation that was released March of last year.  The Funky Steppa EP will be available for download at all major digital outlets such as Juno, Beatport, and Itunes.  Take a listen below to preview and show Cato some love!

Also, check out a couple of releases that Cato has due out on Sin City, BANGERS.

The next track that we have to showcase is one from Camu.  When I first came across this guy, I expressed that his music the definition of “meditating on bassweight’.  This track, called ‘Tajmi’, is no different.  He layers up the track with beautifully sequenced drums, eastern vibe vocal chants, and distant synths that add an ambiance to the track that is so deep.  This guy really needs to get more exposure.  I mean, it could be a longshot, but his vibes are so suited for the Deep Medi imprint, in my opinion.  Hopefully his sounds will blow up because the more effort that this fellow is able to put into his productions the more our ears will be blessed.  Lend an ear below to this gem.

Camu – Tajmi

.

The last track of the day is one coming from two up-and-coming producers that go by the names StigmaGestalt.  The tune, titled ‘Tribes’, is a really deep lurker!  Comes hard with a growling bassline that’s fitted to scare the children away, no doubt.  The vocals that come in at the beginning immediately hook you and transport your mind into a very renaissance-esque vibe that I envision myself marching to battle with.  Haha, man that probably sounds weird but, it’s the truth.  Once tune progresses into it’s climax, percussion floods the airwaves and the eyes down business begins.  Again, these are two producers that you should really keep your ears on because if they continue to produce tunes like this they are going to get noticed quicker than you can say “bassweight is king”.  Listen below and make sure to visit their Facebook pages and show them support.  There are some free 320’s on Stigma’s page for those who ‘like’ it, so get amongst it people!

Alright that’s it for today, like I said, I’m exhausted and need to go to sleep haha.  Check back tomorrow as Shice will be bringing some more heat to the table.  Make sure you stay locked on this page because we have an interview with an artist that is of the highest caliber coming your way, as always :).  Bless.

Spotlight: Innamind Recordings

Today we want to feature a record label that’s putting out some serious heat and bound to be turning heads in the year to come.  Hailing from the bass bumping mega island New Zealand, today’s post highlights Innamind Recordings.  Stacked with releases planned in the months to come and a roster of artists producing quality lurkers, I think we can expect big things from these boys.

The first artist of mention, is part of the UK’s Macabre Unit crew which we covered last; they go by the name of Pheral.  Pheral is a collaboration of Gengar and Bagheera, two producers/DJ’s from Leuven, Belgium. The duo came together in October 2011, united by a love for the eyes-down side of things. Support comes from the likes of Sleeper, Biome, Demon, Perverse, Tallan, Versa, Rowl, Anex, Occult etc.  Alongside their productions, they’re also residents at Leuven events Entropy and Space Shaped.  A couple months ago, Pheral put out a release on Innamind titled ‘Sanctuary/Hatchway’.  Sanctuary’s a deep one, with a sick ominous sample set right before the drop.  This one’s straight dark, almost creepy in a way.  Sick use of percussion in this one no doubt.  Hatchway’s on the same tip, quick snare patterns and deep sweeping drums.

Pheral – Sanctuary

.

Head over to Pheral’s Facebook page to hear a recent remix of his tune done by a producer named Knowledge, its deep!

Next on the lineup is Percept.  Set to release an E.P. entitled Boxed In later this month, Percept displays the sound that we here at BWS love to listen to.  Check his tune ‘Boxed In’, it’s soundsystem music to say the least.  Hold tight for this waan.

Percept – Boxed In

.

Moving forward, we got sounds coming from Nanobyte, a producer from Cardiff, UK.  It’s unreal how much good music comes from the UK, but when you have enough creative minds in a small area pushing the boundaries of quality bass music, you can expect large things.  The first couple of tunes showcased are titled ‘Shadow Hunter’ and ‘Shen’.  I catch myself finding a lack of words to describe the depth of the production being pushed so have a listen.  This is what music feels like.

.

Nanobyte – Shen

.

Also these mandem did a remix of ‘Dem A Talk’ which is straight on par.  That’s the third high grade remix of this tune we’ve heard with other remixes coming from Compa and TMSV.  He’s giving it away once he gets 600 follower on Facebook so start following!

Nanobyte – Dem A Talk (Remix)

.

Last artist to highlight today under the Innamind imprint is Gantz.  Last week we covered a remix of one of his tunes and this week we want to mention a release set to come out in months to come.  The tune’s titled ‘Left Right Hindsight’ and has a different vibe than the rest.  Constant kick drums and off beat snares light up the speakers with part of the tune sounds like Jah blowing a huge breathe through the rest of the elements. Listen all the way to the end as the second drop fades out, it’s really dope.  Also forthcoming on the Gantz EP is a tune called ‘Cave Dance’.  This one takes you through an abyss of spacey, tribal-influenced deepness.  This EP is going to be much anticipated by all the heads.

That’s Innamind Recordings in a nutshell for you.  Be sure to have a deeper look at the label for other artists not covered today such as Content, and tunes put out in the past.  Watch their space, as they’re set to release tunes on wax later in the year.  Thanks for all support.  Tonight we are headed to LA to bruk out to one of the our biggest bass music heavyweights, Breakage.  Check this space later in the week for a review on what dubplates he had up his sleeve.  Knowing that mans swaggers, it’s finna be XXXL.

Bless,

– BWS (Lowkey)

Oi!  What’s good all you frequency lurkers.  Hope you have your sub ready to flex today, because we have some truly heavy music to highlight.  Massive respect out to all the artists that have been pushing these sounds!

To start things off in a proper fashion we have a tune hailing from the hand of Australian producers Spherix & Kwality.  To be honest, don’t really know too much about these two.  I came across this track from browsing the AJP Youtube page, and was struck with awe.  The tune starts off really nice with some heavy atmospherics and a big tribal style kick drum that ruptures through your bloodstream.  I was hooked from there.  Then….. the second breath came.  WOW!  Don’t even want to verbally address this.  Just have a listen and you will know the feeling I had when it dropped.  Mad respect for the percussion utilized in this track, it’s an absolute gem.  These two are definitely a pair that you’re going to want to keep your ears on if you haven’t been following them already, we know we will be.

.

This next track comes from the long time OG, Cluekid.  At a very young age he has already placed a release with Skream under his belt on the Disfigured Dubz imprint alongside a number of other anthems on labels like Ringo, -30, and Soul Jazz Records.  The two tracks that we have from him today are off his latest release, Bullfrog 006.  The first tune, titled ‘Ninety Three’, is a really dope jungle-vibed tune with chopped up breaks, ragga vocal samples, and a sub-heavy bassline.  The flip, ‘Swampman’, is an anthemic bassweight stomper!  The kid knows his shit, and his music speaks for that.  This tracks emits a wall of bass that “clear the dust out of the room”.  Lend an ear to both these tracks and support this badman with a purchase from Juno or Surus.

To finish things off for the day we have two absolutely phenomenal mixes to showcase.  One from the Budapest born, UK based don DJ MADD.  The other is from the parisian musical mastermind Von D.  Both of these mixes are filled with top-notch dubs and first-class mixing skills.  Both of these mixes are available for download so I would highly recommend getting on top of that before the link disappear.  Madd’s mix was done for Cali-based magazine Big Up and Von D’s for the Stand High Sound crew.  Make sure to show love to both these guys, some of the most prolific artists in the underground (for now ;)).
