VA – ‘Bloodstock’ Mixed by DJ Foster [No.Mad Records]

Bloodstock Art

Ez everyone.  Hope you enjoyed the holidays!  I’m sure you’ve all seen the Dubstepforum 2014 Award results by now, whatever the f*ck those even mean.  Can’t ever seem to wrap my head around trying to publicly award people for achievements with any form of art, especially in such a procedurally flawed manner.  Anyway, big up to those who received the most votes and those who did not, you’re all equally deserving of praise in my book.  Special shout to Alastair, Brett, and the newcomer Jake at TRUSIK as I think they’ve done a fantastic job in taking the blog to the next level with class.  2014 is your year, boys.

In other news, the Italian imprint, No.Mad Records, has been pushing some serious sounds within the past year (and much earlier, too) with artists from all over the globe.  Graziano’s ‘Room 2’ EP, Piezo’s ‘Ptay’ backed with a wicked remix from Killawatt, and Matt U’s ‘Something About You’ EP have all garnered support and respect from various sectors of the deep scene.  The imprint has taken a giant leap with their latest VA compilation, ‘Bloodstock’, which brings a solid amount of new artists alongside some of the imprint’s staple musicians to curate and execute a diverse representation of both the label and the sound.  Everything from the minimal roots vibe of Occult’s ‘Rockers’ to pounding techno-esque percussion of Epitome’s ‘Shinbone’ – it’s all here.  A brilliant way for the imprint to hit 2014 with a running start.  Tracklist and previews below!

01. Dubapes – Forgotten Concept

03. Arp XP – Someone Else

Big Sounds: Sleeper, Loadstar, Congi, Data & Alvarez, and Pressa

Easy all the heads. Halfway through the week, and I’m loving it! This weekend is going to be quite an epic one. Tomorrow night we have myself (Kinman) throwing down an all-vinyl set in Santa Barbara in support of Broken Note’s performance. If you’re going to be in town come check out the show! It’s free and Broken Note throws down really dope live shows with some truly powerful sound waves. It’s going to be at Eos Lounge on Anacapa, come kick it with the fam! Then, Saturday night we have Beyond Wonderland with the Hospital Records crew coming through in full-effect, Andy C the 3-deck master, Mistajam, Ed Rush & Optical, and Magnetic Man. Honestly haven’t been this excited for a show in a LONG time. It’s already a sold out show, those of you that got tickets, well played. If you don’t have tickets I would strongly suggest figuring out a way to get in because it’s going to be one for the record books.

In light of the rave this weekend, today’s music is a mixture of dubstep as well as drum and bass. Some top-notch music as always, so flip on the sub, light up the spliff, and get ready for today’s journey.

First tune that I want to highlight is an absolutely massive techno roller coming from the hands of Sleeper. The tune, titled ‘Oxygen’, would go hard in the airplane hangars that Saturdays event is held at. Pure minimalistic vibes and sub-pressure that can be felt miles away. Really can’t get enough of these percussive techno tunes that so many ‘dubstep’ artists are putting out lately. Quality material! Lend an ear below.

This next bit is another one from a man who has been so on top of his shit lately, Congi. Holding it down for the Macabre Unit crew HARD. The track we have from him today is titled ‘Cult’ and is forthcoming on Tribe12 Records. He utilizes a really clever and meaningful vocal sample that should resonate extremely well to the heads with strong ties to a proper soundsystem. The spliff directive mentioned above was primarily for this one 😉

Congi – Cult (Forthcoming Tribe12)

Pressa just recently dropped a 140 jungle tune called ‘Be With Me’. This one is for all the foot work crew! Displaying that classic vibe fused with modern sound. There seems to be a pretty big divide in peoples opinions about this stuff. Personally, I think it’s dope but I also understand the complaints of long-time junglists who feel it’s lost its authenticity. Each to his own, I guess. Anyways…..

This next tune picks the tempo up a bit. A new one from Data & Alvarez that is just a skanker! The track’s titled ‘Resist’ and you can still make out the chant, faintly under the vocal processing. Hope you’re somewhere you can move your feet, this 170 business will get you going.

Data & Alvarez – Resist

The final track we’re going to leave you with is a remix Loadstar did for Noisia. It’s been out for a while so many of you have probably heard it but, it’s one of the few remixes of a Noisia tune that is even comparable to the next level business that they’re on. This track is an absolute anthem for the late nights with no sleep and and pure vibes.

Noisia – Tommy’s Theme (Loadstar Remix)

Alright goons, see you next time. Respect.

To the gods.

A Look Into Killawatt & Thelem

What’s good everybody.  Before we send you off into the weekend we wanted to showcase two up-and-coming heavy hitters that have been making big moves lately.

The first artist we’re going to talk about is a man hailing from Guildford, UK.

Killawatt has just recently begun to manifest his talents as a Dubstep producer, making the transition from Jungle.  While still owning Satta Sounds, a Jungle record label, he has begun to delve into the more deeper, tribal productions of the 130-140bpm range.  Although he has only been on the radar for a relatively short time, his productions are of ABSOLUTE quality.  Quickly gaining releases from Wheal & Deal, Black Box, Box Clever, and Subway Recordings, Killawatt has the potential to do many great things in years to come.  Below you will find Killawatt’s Soundcloud, make sure you lend an ear to his tunes.  You will also find the 4-tune EP that Killawatt has given out for free to his fans.  Please spread his sounds to your friends and get this guy the support he deserves!

Killawatt’s Free EP:

Black Sun Empire – Kempi (Killawatt Remix)

Killawatt – The Room

Killawatt – Hypertension

Killawatt – Wired In

Second at the plate is a man who, in a very consistent manner, has been putting out some extraordinary bassweight.  Matt Weare’s ability to meticulously construct his soundscape  makes a bold presence in the crisp, clean, and controlled quality of his music.  Thelem’s recent collaborations with Chestplate newcomer, Sleeper, consist of ridiculously pressurized low-frequencies that could threaten the stability of any building, given the proper sound system.  Also the owner of Orientis Records, which hosts fellow heavy-weight producers such as Killa&Instinct, Crisp, and Pressa, Matt has his mind set on setting an example.   With the start-up of his new record label  Thelem strives to carry on the vinyl culture by requiring all releases to be pressed into wax.  Bassweight Society highly recognizes and commends this effort to uphold bass musics roots.  So be on the look out for more huge releases by this guy and the rest of the Orientis crew.  Below you will find 3 tunes from Thelem’s Soundcloud page:

Thelem – Waiting Hour (Forthcoming LPR)

Thelem & Killawatt – Dualism

Thelem & Sleeper – Untitled

Don’t let these guys slip under your radar because they are going to be responsible for some MASSIVE sounds to come.  Hope everybody enjoys the free tunes, make sure to big up Killawatt for his generosity!

One love to the gods.
