Can You Handle The TRUTH?

What’s good everybody!  As I’m sure you made out from the title, we are highlighting the New Zealand Dubstep superstars, Truth.  This talented duo has been making big tune after big tune.  We will never forget the first time we heard a Truth song.  It was the remix of Optimus Gryme – Immortal, back in 2009, and we immediately knew these guys were going to be doing big things.  With releases like ‘The Fatman’, ‘Soundsystem’, and ‘Full Baked’, it is no surprise that they have become one of the most respected artists in the bass music scene.  Heavily influenced by Loefah and Mala, Truth’s music is filled with spacey, low-end pressure displaying a very unique “darkness” to it.  Releasing tracks like ‘Feel’ with Silkie, ‘Dreams Can Never Come True” , and ‘Birds’ ft. Dutty Ranks Truth’s ability to produce innovative sounds whilst paying homage to the foundations of Dubstep music is exhibited.  Their debut album, ‘Puppets’, being nominated for best Dubstep album of 2011 in the Dubstepforum awards showcases the forward thinking direction these guys are headed in.  Truth’s two latest releases, ‘Full Baked’/’Birds ft. Dutty Ranks’ (BLACKBOX019) & ‘Snake’/’Direct Blow’ (GDKR003) are unbelievable and I would highly recommend purchasing them before they sell out the 12″ ‘ s.  Below are a couple links you can purchase their music and also their Soundcloud, in case you haven’t heard the weight that Truth brings.

A Look Into Killawatt & Thelem

What’s good everybody.  Before we send you off into the weekend we wanted to showcase two up-and-coming heavy hitters that have been making big moves lately.

The first artist we’re going to talk about is a man hailing from Guildford, UK.

Killawatt has just recently begun to manifest his talents as a Dubstep producer, making the transition from Jungle.  While still owning Satta Sounds, a Jungle record label, he has begun to delve into the more deeper, tribal productions of the 130-140bpm range.  Although he has only been on the radar for a relatively short time, his productions are of ABSOLUTE quality.  Quickly gaining releases from Wheal & Deal, Black Box, Box Clever, and Subway Recordings, Killawatt has the potential to do many great things in years to come.  Below you will find Killawatt’s Soundcloud, make sure you lend an ear to his tunes.  You will also find the 4-tune EP that Killawatt has given out for free to his fans.  Please spread his sounds to your friends and get this guy the support he deserves!

Second at the plate is a man who, in a very consistent manner, has been putting out some extraordinary bassweight.  Matt Weare’s ability to meticulously construct his soundscape  makes a bold presence in the crisp, clean, and controlled quality of his music.  Thelem’s recent collaborations with Chestplate newcomer, Sleeper, consist of ridiculously pressurized low-frequencies that could threaten the stability of any building, given the proper sound system.  Also the owner of Orientis Records, which hosts fellow heavy-weight producers such as Killa&Instinct, Crisp, and Pressa, Matt has his mind set on setting an example.   With the start-up of his new record label  Thelem strives to carry on the vinyl culture by requiring all releases to be pressed into wax.  Bassweight Society highly recognizes and commends this effort to uphold bass musics roots.  So be on the look out for more huge releases by this guy and the rest of the Orientis crew.  Below you will find 3 tunes from Thelem’s Soundcloud page:

The West Coast Don: Matty G

Happy Halloween all you bass fiends!!  Hope everybody had a great weekend.  Bassweight Society had an amazing time at ‘Escape From Wonderland’ in San Bernadino, CA on Saturday night!

For today’s post we are highlighting an artist who we can, without a doubt, say is constantly igniting sparks of hope for the US dubstep scene.  The Santa Cruz, California artist Matty G has truly shown a relentless attempt to “..take it back to the soul, to try and represent America’s art form a little better.”  This attempt has become much more of an actuality.  His manner of stylistically incorporating the West Coast into his tunes, arguably, cannot be matched by any other producer in the US. With early hits like ‘50,000 Watts’ and ‘My 808’ there is a reason he is the only West Coast producer signed to the famed UK label, ‘Dub Police’, along with many of dubstep’s other heavy hitters. From his earlier productions to his upcoming EP, we at Bassweight Society are proud of the milestones Matty G has set for US dubstep and the West Coast.

And it begins.

Well folks tonight is the night that this plane takes off.  As I was thinking about all the things that I could say for the first post it struck me that , realistically, there aren’t going to be very many people reading this first post.  So I think instead of composing a masterpiece of linguistic expression for virtually nobody, I will keep it short and sweet tonight.

     The first artist we want to highlight is a man who, in our opinion, is a dying breed of producers.  Dom Tarasek, aka Commodo, is a sampling king, which these days is few and far between.  We’re talking real sampling abilities here too, not just tossing a couple words in before the drop of a tune.  With his sampling skills he brings an eclectic repertoire of sound, ranging from tribal chest rattlers to hyped dance floor business.  Commodo’s choice to keep his feet rooted in values of the “dubstep beginnings”, such as the vinyl culture,  is one that I look upon with immense amount of respect and admiration.  Today we have 3 Songs from this badman. 1 from a release on Black Box records that he did with Lurka called “Airtight”.  The other two are off his latest Deep Medi release, MEDI044, “Uprising/Saracen”.  Keep your eyes on this guy because his unique style of sound will prove to be a lasting one with the deep heads.
