Blond:ish – ‘Inward Visions’ EP [KOMPAKT]

Blondish Kompakt Art

Blond:ish returns to Kompakt after the dust has settled a bit from their ‘Lovers In Limbo’ EP that dropped last year.  If you somehow missed that release, I strongly encourage you the check it out —————-> HERE.  The Canadian duo have brought two tracks together that embark the listener on a dissonant journey of sound.  ‘No Place Like Gnome’ opens the single with a dark aesthetic maintained through sustained and detuned pads swirling into an ambivalent sense of bewildered wandering, then the journey is reassured by a hearty bassline that rolls beautifully between the swinging drum groove.  The title track carries the ambivalence of ‘No Place Like Gnome’ into a more clearly affirmed direction of discovery, lightening the mood with lush, sun-drenched synths and the hauntingly sexy vocals of Beyou.

I am really hoping (and anticipating) to hear these tunes out at the burn this year via the Robot Heart gang, and can’t wait to get lost in the desert apocalypse vibe these tunes create.  After all, there is certainly no better place to do such things, than at the burn.

Check the links below and stay connected with Kompakt and Blond:ish.  Unfortuantely, there aren’t links I could embed to stream the release in this feature, but you can preview the tracks at any of the buy links below 🙂

UNDERSOUNDlab001 ft. d:Alog, Matt Joe, Harry McCanna & Isherwood

Undersound Lab Art

Ez everyone!  I’ve got an EP for you today, coming from a label/night crew called Undersound based out of London.  The EP is in the vein of dark and minimal house music and packs a lot of groove in it.  The debut EP features artists known to myself like Matt Joe and d:Alog, as well as two that I’ve yet to stumble across – Harry McCanna and Isherwood.  My percy off this release is without a doubt ‘Hackney’ by Matt Joe.  The subtlety in the design of the atmospheres provide a brilliantly eerie  landscape for the drum breaks to take precedence in the mix, causing a commotion within people’s feet.  The EP is hosted on the label’s Bandcamp page and is offered as a “name your price” release, so you can donate as much, or as little as you feel necessary.  A couple dollars wouldn’t hurt you 😉  Below is the label’s press release, links to the Undersound pages, and a link to download the EP from the Undersound Bandcamp.  Hope you enjoy!

“We are finally out with the first release of the UNDERSOUNDlab, a platform for our own artists and other talented producers around us to share some of their music with like minded people and establish the sound of our Collective.  Undersound started as a community of music lovers based in London in 2011, and thanks to the power of the Internet steadily connected with many like minded people around Europe.  Our events in East London are our chances to gather together and celebrate electronic music, and the releases on this net label will reflect the sound of our parties.”

“The package kicks off with Tone of Arcs Comes only Once, a superb electronic vocal workout that will be certain towhet the appetite for his forthcoming artist album, this is quickly followed by BLUD who delivers his Beatapella mixof Jonny White & Kenny Glasgows excellent The Creep. Offerings from Clayton Steele, in the shape of Multiple Feeling and Louie Fresco with his White Sugar (dub) show two differing but equally impressive sides to the labels output whilst Toronto 3 piece My Favorite Robot give a taster of whats to come on their upcoming No.19 Music artist LP. Teeloos Xrays is a wonderfully off kilter and original piece of electronica and Sync Mode, the production outfit of Nitin, Butter the Butcher, Jeremy Glenn and Todd Simmons, offer up a slice of soulful excellence on Room with a View before Cameo Culture drop some Balaeric brilliance with Losing Game. Jakkin Rabbit show what all the fuss is about with a standout slice of deep house before the package is closed with Jonathan Lees dark edged and hypnotic Mission Control. Miamis Winter Music Conference comes but once a year but it is always worth the wait, and with labels like No.19 Music offering up original songs on a sampler like this, it truly make it a celebration of all that’s good in electronic music, enjoy!”

East End Dubs – She Loves It EP [ANR011]

east end dubs art

If you’re not aware of the man behind the alias and label – East End Dubs – you’re in for quite the treat.  I’d be telling a fib if I told you I’ve been following the man for very long, I only stumbled across his music a couple months back.  But, after delving into his discography, I’ve discovered that this man has been producing some of the (in my opinion) freshest, cleanest, and most dance-friendly deep house my ears have come across.  Seemingly a man of mystery, he’s received much of his acclaim from the label he runs – self-titled ‘East End Dubs’ – that has put out a number of white label, limited edition, color 12″ records alongside digital copies.  The series, as of now, has reached it’s 6th installment and is sure to steadily march forth.  He has also started a vinyl-only release series with the 001 set to drop sometime in early April and I highly recommend the vinyl heads to stay on top of this one – it contains 4 masterfully constructed tracks that will suit any warehouse vibe.  Check the pre-order link —–> PRE-ORDER

The release I want to highlight today dropped yesterday on Act Natural Records, and features 4 original compositions from the Londoner:

  1. She Loves It
  2. Stranger
  3. Make Some
  4. Charlie Foxtrot

‘She Loves It’ kicks off the EP with deep, sub-driven grooves accompanied by stuttered kicks, and dauntingly sexy vocal chops woven throughout the mix.  My personal favorite off the EP.  ‘Stranger’ follows suit as far as the depth factor, with generous amounts of reverb applied to stabs and various other synth sounds – creating a very dubbed-out aesthetic for the track.  ‘Make Some’ is all about the drums!  Thundering kick hits, crisp hats, and various other percussive elements are sewn together leaving ample space for the subtle pad present itself, rising and falling from the mix.  To finish out the EP, ‘Charlie Foxtrot’ brings us back to the warehouse with our eyes down and feet moving.  Applying his signature mastery of clean drum hits, he adds punching synth stabs, distant vocal chops, and eerily pleasing atmospherics that give a perfect finishing touch to this beat.

As of now, the release is a Beatport exclusive so I’ve included the buy link below:
