Just thought I’d share something with you quickly. After releasing one of the finest collections of music the dubstep community has seen in 2011, Author has announced their second LP, titled ‘Forward Forever’, which is due for release on Black Box records towards the end of June. According to FACT Mag:
“In June, the Leeds producers will team up once again for a new album, Forward Forever. The record promises a more “natural-feeling, organic vibe”, and points to Ninja Tune favourites The Cinematic Orchestra and Bonobo as key influences. Guest spots are promised from UK hip-hop face Jehst and battle regular Stig Of The Dump. Black Canvas’ Rider Shafique, last heard on Kahn’s ‘Late Night Blues’, will also appear, as will reggae vocalist Dan Man.”
They’ve been kind enough to release a preview from one of the tracks off the album, as well as put together a mix to celebrate the announcement. I’ve listed both below. Listeners can rest assured that this album will be of much acclaim throughout the rest of the year, and will likely attain a timelessness similar to the self-titled ‘Author’ LP released on Tectonic. I will keep this page updated as time goes along. Keep your eyes peeled!

EZ brothers and sisters. Hope everybody is doing well, feeling good, and vibing out to this beautiful world that we live in. Time has been straight up FLYING by lately, it’s truly insane. I thought that once school was done with I would have all the time in the world to keep this site updated and content constantly rolling through during my summer break. Life just keeps throwing this and that, and things just haven’t been catering to my free time. I apologize for that, hopefully all ya’ll heads can understand :). It’s been almost a week since I last got a post up here and in that time there has been some really amazing music put out and some great news revealed, as well as some saddening news.
Let’s get the sad out of the way first. Although it seems to be quite speculative, considering no definite statements have been recorded, rumors are spreading that Pendulum will no longer be writing/performing music as they’ve decided to concentrate on their Knife Party project. I have no hate for what they’ve chosen to do with Knife Party, everybody needs to make money, and I’m sure they really do enjoy the music they make and the reactions they get from the crowds. However, it saddens me that Pendulum will no longer be. They provided my youth with some of the greatest EDM experiences and I draw a lot of influence from their innovation and flat-out talent. I hope that it’s not really the end but, times change, people change, and the game changes too. Much love and respect out to them boys for doing their thing for so long and I wish them the best in their future endeavors!
To lighten things up a bit, their is two specific events that made me extremely happy recently. One being that Mala’s in Cuba album was reviewed by Joe Muggs and published on The Arts Desk (read here). Not that I ever doubted the quality of Mala’s production skills, but it was quite an intriguing concept to incorporate Latin music into the South London brainchild of dubstep. I’ve heard the two tunes that I’m sure everybody else has heard as well, but to read to Joe Muggs interpretations of the remainder of the album made my heart jump up like a schoolgirl who had just seen the Nsync tour bus pass by. I truly cannot wait for this album to drop! It’s going to look all these ignorant bastards, who make claims like “dubstep is dead”, straight in the eyes and tell them to FUCK OFF! I’m getting really tired of all these jaded listeners who incessantly complain because they are too lazy to do their homework and search through hype. Dubstep will never die. Second thing that made me quite happy was the announcing of the boat parties that will be held during both Dimensions and Outlook festival. HYPED! The tickets will go on sale this Thurday at 8pm (GMT), so all the US heads that means 11am. So many unreal parties will be going down, I can’t even begin to imagine the vibes that will be going down. Make sure you get to your tickets to whichever party you want to attend fast! They will sellout in an extremely quick fashion.
Now, to the beats. I’ve got a solid handful of tunes that I want to post up on this beezy, hope you enjoy dem’.
First track is from a favorite producer of mine, TMSV. It’s a collaboration with the notorious Beezy. The track is laced up with some awakening lyrics that get your mind thinking about some of the more troubling things occurring on our planet. The words are abruptly met with percussion that will take your mind back to the tribal roots we all share. The dread-ridden synth created for this tune is all-time. Puts out some of the most intense energy. Massive one out to TMSV and Beezy for this production.
This next bit is a forthcoming on Tempa Records by Consequence. Proper soundsystem music, this one. Such a powerful kick, the snare is tailored perfectly, and the space in this tune is just as vital as the notes. I’m sure there will be lots of great things to come from Consequence after this release.
This next track picks the energy up and gets in your face with Biome incredible production skills. This one is another tune filled with percussion that will incite the most primal of urges inna’ dance. THIS TUNE IS FUCKING MAD! I keep finding myself saying this but the man just keeps putting out heat after heat but, Biome has seriously been on a roll for about a year straight, putting out the heaviest and most intricately constructed tunes. Big respect to the badman.
Next up is forthcoming on the almighty Deep Medi imprint. I’m sure you’ve heard it because it’s been getting so much hype but I have to repost it because it’s such an amazing release. Medi 59 will be from Jack Sparrow, and it’s about bloody time this man got signed to the Medi fam! This track, titled ‘Good Old Days’ features Ruckspin on the production with Sparrow and is a jazz-infused bassweight masterpiece. These guys have nearly unrivaled mix-downs, every element of the track being placed and EQ’d with the finest of precision. The flip, ‘Afraid of Me’, takes a step away from the jazzy side of things and delves into the sonic exploration of techno-infused bass and analog sounding atmospherics. Going to be an amazing release and I cannot wait to snag up a vinyl for myself!

I want to send you off tonight with two absolutely MASSIVE remixes done by Sleeper and Compa. Sleeper has remixed DCult’s ‘Deadly Hands of Shang Chi’ and done an amazing job! Rupturing sub-bass on this one! Compa has chosen to release his rendition of Reamz – Fear on the ‘We Are Wax’ white label imprint. This tune displays Compa’s top-notch ability to take an original, that is already an amazing tune, and turn it into an equally as large interpretation. Make sure that your subs are ready to flex on this one!
What up heads! Hope everybody is pumped for the weekend, I’m amped as funk! As the summertime vibes have been rolling in deep here in Cali’, I figured it was about time to start thinking about Outlook Festival. This shit is the ILL, straight up. After talking with artists, somehow, the statement “you NEED to get to Outlook Festival”, is always thrown at me. Resident Advisor has said it’s “the best four days of bass in Europe, if not the world.” Just from pictures alone, I get the chills about this place. Then, after I hear all the stories from various people of what goes down, I get goosebumps the size of grapes rolling up my spine! That’d be a trippy sight, huh? But seriously, this place is just unbelievable looking. Same location as Dimensions Festival that we were talking about a couple weeks ago, the abandoned 18th century fort. The scenery of this fort is breathtaking, crystal-blue water backed by silhouettes of the cliffs that line the shores, and oh yeah, don’t forget about the LAZERS broooooo. Haha, shit is going to get weird. According to the Outlook crew, there is only a limited number of tickets left, so jump on that if you’re trying to go. As I’ve been browsing the web trying to find housing for the trip, things are filling up really fast (most places are already booked up!), so I don’t doubt that capacity is going to be reached relatively soon.
The artist lineup the year is absolutely unbelievable. Name any style of soundsystem music, and it is represented at Outllook. They just released the 3rd lineup wave sometime last week I think and it’s crazy to think about all the sick performances that will be going down in a single venue. Digital Mystiks, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Phife, Kryptic Minds, Submotion Orchestra, Phaeleh, Dub Phizix, and on and on. Check the image below for a more in-depth look at the lineup.
How nutty does that look?! ^ It’s going to be such an amazing experience to get out there. Seriously, try to make it! Below you will find a bunch of music from a few of the artists that will performing on the beach. The mix from Zed Bias is straight FIRE. Also, make sure you check out the track ‘Horizon’ from Tunnidge, it’s one of the hardest steppers anthems I’ve heard in a long long time.
Oi oi! What’s good everybody. I’m tripping that it’s already Thursday, I don’t know about you guys. I’m stoked but this week has just flown by! Hope everybody is feeling well, feeling blessed, and ready to hear some great music because today’s tunes are STACKED with quality. Got everything from tribal to dancefloor business to deep-space exploration business.
First track for today is going to set things off REAL proper. With Jack Sparrow and Ruckspin on the production, what other than pure fire can be expected to result? At least in my mind, that collaboration is always set up to make some of the best music. This track that Jack Sparrow just threw up on his Facebook a few hours ago is called ‘Entrapment’ and is stated to be a WIP. After hearing what they have laid down already, I get the chills thinking about what the final product will sound like! Take a listen below, it’s an absolute gem.
This next track is a tribal bit from the hands of Wayfarer. We highlighted a track of his not too long ago, now he’s back with more heat! The tune ‘Fall of The Zulu’ is a percussion masterpiece. Coming at you aggressively with pounding drums and ambiguous chants this track is a straight mind-trip. I hope to hear a lot more tracks like this coming from Wayfarer. Follow him on Soundcloud and show him some love, he deserves way more attention.
Third tune is another collaboration, this time from Kaiju & Perverse. Perverse has been making big moves solo with his debut release on Artikal hitting the shelves soon. Kaiju released ‘Monster’ on Osiris Records and has another release in the works for Osiris as well. They did a spot-on job with this tune. Titled ‘Named After Hereos’, this one fills the space real nicely with growling basslines, spacious soundscaping, and oh so crispy snare hits. Big up Perverse and Kaiju for this one!

The final tune for tonight is one for the dancefloor. Anex recently threw this tune up on his Soundcloud, and it’s got some proper funky vibes to it. Soulful harmonics, footwork inducing drum sequences, and pure vibes fill this one out. Gotta’ let the music speak for itself on this one really. It’s only going to be up on his Soundcloud for short time so don’t miss out! Take a listen and show the man some love!
Good day, folks. A lot of interesting/controversial things have happened within Dubstep this past week. Whether it was the victors of the 2011 Dubstep Music Awards held in Birmingham (Don’t forget the girl that received the “trigger finger”, so eloquently put by Skream, front row. Pictured above.), or a certain somebody receiving Grammy nominations. Everybody has their two-cents and it is a conversation so circular that it would be useless for us to even spark a debate about. All we will say is that Electronic music, Bass music included, has encountered a new frontier, whether you consider it a positive or a negative, and we are very interested to see how everything pans out. So today, on this beautiful day in Southern California, we are going to bring you some fresh new weight that we’ve seen circulating.
The first track we have for you is, yet again, an absolute gem from the badman Benton. This track, titled ‘Equilibrium’, emits some amazingly dark vibes. With misinterpreted claims about the Mayan calender predicting the end of the world next year, the vocal sample of this track is seemingly too perfect. A spacey soundscape takes the listener on a mystical journey into the heavy hitting drop filled with an ABSOLUTE amount of pressure on the low-end. Make sure to have your subs turned up when you listen to this apocalyptic masterpiece.

The next two tunes that we have for you are produced by Jack Sparrow. The first tune is a 170 production, but on the slower side. It is a remix of ‘The Way I See You’ done by Maidu, and is an absolute roller! The beautiful vocals on this track perfectly compliment the break patterned drum sequences, as the hard-hitting bassline occupies the space left over. The second tune is a collaboration between J. Sparrow, Ruckspin, and Quantam Soul. This bongo-filled, meditation-induced stomper is truly one for the deep heads. The evolution/flow of this tune is a perfect example of how mixdowns should be constructed. Big ups to the man like Jack Sparrow, as well as Ruckspin and Quantam Soul!

The next two tunes come from the Belgian production duo, Requake. These guy are truly underrated in our opinion and deserve MUCH MORE exposure! Do yourselves, and us, a favor by checking these guys out and spreading there sounds to everybody you know (IF you haven’t already done so). The first track is one titled ‘Thalys’. This tune hit so hard and makes your sub flex to its true potential! The second tune, titled ‘Berrua’, automatically sparks the “head-nod” onto its listeners. This bouncy low-end production is a great way to start off the day.
