Press Play: TZR & Tallan

Welcome back friends and fellow deep heads. For today’s feature we have a mix and a couple freebies to hold you over until the weekend, but most importantly we’re gonna  introduce a stateside producer that everyone should be keeping their ears out for. Seattle’s TZR started out his electronic epoch as a drum and bass dj, then took hold of dubstep,  and now is giving Us dubstep a good name with heaps of releases to back him up. His sounds can best be described as deep, dark and eerie. The experienced listener can hear his drum and bass background shine through in most tracks and it most definitely proves to his advantage. Coming at people with persistent rolling basslines, energetic drums and spacious synths, TZR is surely an artist to follow.

With a slew of tracks on a range of labels, TZR’s music is widely available to the public and listening is highly encouraged. Check out his most recent EP on California based sub Pressure Recordings:

.

He gave out a free tune today with pal, Issa:

.

Fellow bloggers FatKidOnFire got an interview and downloadable mix with, TZR back in October. Get the down low here.

Next up is a freshly broadcast radio set from New Zealand’s up and comer, Tallan. Previously featured on the site, check out this post or his Soundcloud to introduce yourself to Tallan, or better yet, listen to this mix of all original tracks.

.

The mix was blasted on sub.fm and dives in deep and tribal, then picks up halfway through with a range of percussive and sub heavy bangers (even a 140 jungle track too). Download this mix, do what you will with it, and make sure to follow Tallan on Soundcloud and Facebook

Until next time,

Stripped Down Monday: Droid Sector, Knowledge, & Heny G

What it do people.  Back from the weekend, FUUUUUUUUUU.  The weather has been tripping me and my body out lately.  First it’s hot and sunny, then it’s raining and windy as a hell.  Me thinks some crazy shit is about to happen on a natural disaster type level.  2012 brooooooooo.  Speaking of 2012, isn’t it funny that the mayan calendar never factored in the ‘leap years’ that Caeser created back in 400bc -ish.  So, technically the world should have ended over a year-and-a-half ago if you follow the actual mayan calendar.  People sometimes, haha.  Anyways, enough of my dumb fact for the day session.  Let’s get into some weight.

Today I’m really vibin’ off of really stripped down, dark sounds, although one of the tunes isn’t very dark at all.  I got four large ones for all your ears.

First track is one from the badman Droid Sector.  This guy has a really sick rack of releases under his belt, with labels like Subway, Avocaudio, and Gradient, and 2012 is looking to make it even larger.  This tune, called ‘Slenderman’, was just upped onto his Soundcloud a few hours ago so it’s quite fresh, in it’s style, as well as it’s public life.  It’s only a clip but, it’s forthcoming on Paradise Lost so make sure you snag it on up.  It’s not due out for a month or so, we will be sure to remind you about in case you forget.  Lend an ear.

Droid Sector – Slenderman (Forthcoming Paradise Lost)

.

Second track is such a large tune.  A remix that Knowledge did of an untitled Pheral dub.  M.U.D./M.U.V. lineup is straight killing it this year.  This is a deep roller for the heads, no doubt. Nuff’ said.

Pheral – Untitled (Knowledge Remix)

.

This next track is little bit on the brighter side and has a lot of real groovy vibes.  The snare/clap work on this tune is really dope.  It’s a track from Fable called ‘Culture Music’.  The vocal sample worked in real nice and adds some complimenting organics to the track.

Fable – Culture Music

.

The last track is from long time veteran Heny G.  This guy has been pushing beneath the scene since the early-early days, rinsing house party gigs and pirate radio stations b2b Silkie.  There has been a lot of anticipation for his album ‘Child Hood’ for the past year or so, hopefully it will see a release soon!  The track, titled ‘I C Everything’, fills up the space in your head with some ‘Gangsta Boogie Music’ as the man himself puts it.  He’s on his own plane.  His music is so unique and fresh, truthfully.  Really hope we see a release on this album soon.

Yes I, that’s it for tonight.

Deepness Served Up by Author, Anex, Wayfarer, and Kaiju & Perverse

Oi oi!  What’s good everybody.  I’m tripping that it’s already Thursday, I don’t know about you guys.  I’m stoked but this week has just flown by!  Hope everybody is feeling well, feeling blessed, and ready to hear some great music because today’s tunes are STACKED with quality.  Got everything from tribal to dancefloor business to deep-space exploration business.

First track for today is going to set things off REAL proper.  With Jack Sparrow and Ruckspin on the production, what other than pure fire can be expected to result?  At least in my mind, that collaboration is always set up to make some of the best music.  This track that Jack Sparrow just threw up on his Facebook a few hours ago is called ‘Entrapment’ and is stated to be a WIP.  After hearing what they have laid down already, I get the chills thinking about what the final product will sound like!  Take a listen below, it’s an absolute gem.

Jack Sparrow ft. Ruckspin – Entrapment (Dub)

.

This next track is a tribal bit from the hands of Wayfarer.  We highlighted a track of his not too long ago, now he’s back with more heat!  The tune ‘Fall of The Zulu’ is a percussion masterpiece.  Coming at you aggressively with pounding drums and ambiguous chants this track is a straight mind-trip.  I hope to hear a lot more tracks like this coming from Wayfarer.  Follow him on Soundcloud and show him some love, he deserves way more attention.

Wayfarer – Fall of The Zulu (Dub)

.

Third tune is another collaboration, this time from Kaiju & Perverse.  Perverse has been making big moves solo with his debut release on Artikal hitting the shelves soon.  Kaiju released ‘Monster’ on Osiris Records and has another release in the works for Osiris as well.  They did a spot-on job with this tune.  Titled ‘Named After Hereos’, this one fills the space real nicely with growling basslines, spacious soundscaping, and oh so crispy snare hits.  Big up Perverse and Kaiju for this one!

.

The final tune for tonight is one for the dancefloor.  Anex recently threw this tune up on his Soundcloud, and it’s got some proper funky vibes to it.  Soulful harmonics, footwork inducing drum sequences, and pure vibes fill this one out.  Gotta’ let the music speak for itself on this one really.  It’s only going to be up on his Soundcloud for short time so don’t miss out!  Take a listen and show the man some love!

Anex – Shine (Dub)

.

That’s the word for today stateside.

To the gods.

Different Forms of Darkness: Content & Fornax, Vicious Circle, and More.

Respect.  Today is Tuesday and we are now almost through another month.  There has been a lot of really great music being made the past month, as if there isn’t always good music being made at any given point in time.  I think the greatest thing about a lot of the music being made in 2012, thus far, is that boundaries are being pushed and stretched, bringing variety and freshness to the music.  With that said, there has been a lot of overproduction of certain sounds and styles as well.  Anytime someone, or a group of people, start pigeonholing sounds/styles, the once creative and new attribute becomes dull and tired.  Specifically, I am talking about the recent tag of ‘dungeon’ style.  As if that isn’t the most sorry excuse for a genre title already, it has cause a massive insurgence of sounds that sound exactly the same, over and over, over and over.  Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE deep, dark, and weighty music but, that doesn’t permit people to bite others’ sounds and patterning.  There are so many directions you can go with your productions, especially given the space that dubstep provides, so why just imitate another’s music?  It’s one of those things that is beyond me.  The only reason I am bringing this is up to emphasize to those of you that are beginning to produce yourselves, or have been for sometime now, that you must be ORIGINAL!  You need to create things in your own eyes and windows of perception.  If not, your music will drift into the backround noise with the rest of the worlds mediocrity.

Today we have some really heavy tunes to highlight, so hope you’re ready for some pressure.

First track is a forthcoming tune from Ghost Note, due out on Redshift One sometime soon (RS1002).  This track brings some structure-shattering frequencies into our sound fields.  Sci-Fi ambiances ease your ears into the half-step abyss of sub-pressure and minimalistic drum sequencing.  The soundscaping/cinematic aspects of this one give it a mysterious presence while the extremely hard-hitting kick and sub-bass set the tone for the “no mucking about” type business.  Big up to Ghost Note on this one, loads of respect from us here stateside.

Ghost Note – Hyperion (Forthcoming Redshift One)

.

This next track comes from the like of Content and Fornax.  These two have just been on a top-notch collaboration binge!  Receiving support from the likes of J:Kenzo, Youngsta, and the US ambassador Joe Nice, Content has been making waves in the scene.  Fornax is another man who you should keep your eyes on with releases such as ‘Reconcile’ on Soul Jazz records.  This new bit, titled ‘Identity’, is one of the cooler tunes I’ve heard this month, hands down.  It has such a bouncy vibe to it while sticking to the deep and dark roots that I love so much.  I would be very surprised if this track didn’t find a home under a label very soon.  Respect to Fornax & Content!

Content & Fornax – Identity

.

Up next is a tune from a producer that I really know nothing about.  Just someone that I stumbled across while doing my daily rounds on Soundcloud.  He/she goes by the moniker KFKA and makes some really interestingly deep music.  I see a lot of potential in this artists music.  Bringing dark chants, feedback signals, and unique percussion to the table on this track, KFKA’s style is eclectic and successful.  Be patient and wait for the second drop ;).  This track is also a FREE DOWNLOAD so be sure to snag it on up and give your sincere thanks to KFKA for the giveaway! Download link in Soundcloud bar.

KFKA – Sensations (FREE DOWNLOAD)

.

The last two tracks we have for tonight are two from the London based duo, Vicious Circle.  These two have been turning heads non-stop the past couple of months, specifically for their 140 bpm productions.  Putting out some of the heaviest and darkest tunes to date, these guys are sure to see a largely successful year in 2012.  Getting support from Youngsta, Ben Verse, and many others, I’m sure they will be stuck on the 140 business for quite some time.  Both of these releases are forthcoming on Crunch Recordings and should be listened to at extremely high volumes.  First track, ‘Not Afraid’, is a track displaying huge, rolling kick drums and real gritty presence.  Definitely a tune that will pick the energy up in your mix!  The second track, Hibernation, is another big-time roller.  Again with the high energy vibes, this track brings in a taste for some high frequencies, sounding like a mushroom induced laser stand-off.  Lend your ears to both the tracks below!

Stay blessed people!  Hope you enjoyed the sounds.

Music For Your Mindstate: Techno To Tearout

Yup.  It’s Friday.  Such blessed days, Fridays are.  Just want to give a massive shout to all the heads that rolled through Bassweight Society presents Broken Note last night.  It was truly a great one.  I don’t think people were ready for the powerful sounds that Broken Note had up his sleeve.  Some of the most groundshaking, industrial-esque music I’ve heard, hands down.  He absolutely smashed the dance up!

Before you guys get your weekends started we have some killer tunes that have recently been put into circulation.

First two tracks are off of Boddika’s forthcoming Swamp 81 release that’s due out the 26th of March.  The A side, ‘Acid Jackson’, is MAADDDDD groovy!  Nothing less should ever be expected when Boddika gets on the buttons but, nevertheless, this tune is exceptionally large.  The flip, ‘Basement’, is another gem, straight up.  The synth moves your body for you, even if you’re too cool to skank.

Boddika – Acid Jackson/Basement (Forthcoming Swamp 81)

.

Next tune is another techno one from Sleeper.  Himself, alongside Killawatt, are a techno binge lately and honestly I can’t complain.  Sleeper’s minimal techno vibes are epic!  I mean we’re talking underground dungeon rave status.  No windows, no light, nothing but lasers and vibes.  The track is called ‘Telepathy’, highly recommend listening to this one with your sound at high output levels.

Sleeper – Telepathy

.

Alright, now we’re moving back into the 140 arena with Mensah’s forthcoming Deep Medi release, ‘The Gambia/The Trailing Moons of Saturn’.  This one like Boddika’s is due out March 26 and will no doubt fly off the shelves so, I recommend watching your preferred vinyl retailer very closely so you don’t miss out.  The first track, ‘The Gambia’, is a dark, tribal infused tune for the deep heads.  The percussion is huge on this track!  The Trailing Moons of Saturn is a mind raper.  It gives me the same vibes as a lot of Goth-Trad’s recent work.  Perfectly suiting for the Deep Medi imprint in my opinion.  Take a peak below, blud.

Mensah – The Gambia/The Trailing Moons of Saturn (Forthcoming Deep Medi)

.

The last track we’re going to leave you with is a recent collaboration between LAXX and Walsh, forthcoming on Wheel & Deal.  This one is a straight party tune.  These boys make their presence very well-known with this track as the gritty wobble comes through the speakers with ferocity and, most importantly, CONTROL.  Too much of the heavier stuff lately displays very poor production quality/sound design, but not with this track.  Quality in-your-face dubstep that will set the dance off without a doubt.  Respect to the boys!

LAXX & Walsh – Latest Tech (Forthcoming Wheel & Deal)

.

Alright goons, enjoy the sounds!  Big up the artists so they know their music is well-received.  BUY THEIR MUSIC!!!  Show some respect for the hours these guys put into pleasing our audible desires.  See you next week.  Stay safe and as always, RESPECT!

To the gods.
