John Matrix: The Pentinent Man EP (INNA008)

What up people.  Eluded by the title, today, we have a look into Inna Riddim’s newest addition to the roster, John Matrix.  The Pentiment Man EP will hit the stores today, February 10, so make sure to snag your copy of it!  Hailing from Manchester, Matrix brings heavy interpretations of the dark, minimalist styles within dubstep.   Having a well-rooted involvement in the Manchester scene with things like his earlier days on Unity Radio and his current residency with the Deadbeats Collective, Matrix is a well-seasoned contender.  He has dabbled in producing a plethera of styles within the bass scene which has given him the ability to be very versatile with his incorporation of influences.  This EP is filled with rolling low-end frequencies, shattering snare hits, and killer soundscapes.  Setting the mark as Inna Riddims 8th release (INNA008), Matrix exhibits a very complimenting style to the labels vibe.  ‘Ain’t Changing’ starts things off.  Coming at you right from the beginning with an energetic vocal sample that prefaces the tunes presence.  Nothing but murking about with this one.  ‘Pentinent Man’ follows ‘Ain’t Changing’, and is a very spacious production.  Brings you back a few years, no doubt.  The alternating snares add a really sick effect, too.  The 3rd tune, ‘Hunter’, brings out more of a extraterrestrial vibe with it.  Swaying synths, pumping sub hits, and half-step stomps, another classic styled production!  Matrix finished his release off with the tune ‘Blissfully Unaware’.  This tune definitely sits apart from the rest of the EP.  A much more upbeat vibe with with higher levels of the frequency spectrum being utilized.  Honestly, in my opinion, this tune gives me the same vibes as Kryptic Minds remix of DJ Madd’s ‘Dub Marine’.  Big ups on this one!

Below you will find the preview of the Pentiment Man EP.  You can pick this up at any of the major sites like Juno, Beatport, and Itunes.  Check out the Inna Riddim store for purchase too!    He also built a promo mix for this release, composed primarily of his own productions.  The mix is available for download off of the Inna Riddim website so if you’re vibin’, then snag it on up!  You can find the mix’s tracklist/download link below.  If you want to check out press release put out by the label, check it here.

Caught In The Shadows

It’s such a good feeling when you find an artist for the first time.  Especially when their sound is just what you’ve been looking for.  Just stumbled upon this particular artist who goes by the name Tallan.  He’s based out of New Zealand, and apparently has been putting out some absolutely huge tunes!  He had three releases in 2011 between labels Austerity Recordings and Mutated Sounds.  Being heavily influenced by fellow New Zealand veterans Truth, Optimus Gryme, and The Upbeats, Tallans tunes are extremely powerful.  The first tune, called ‘Before You Speak’, is an absolute stomper.  Huge ravey synths right off the bat backed with an ominous soundscape leading into a syncopated, chest-hollowing drop.  Strictly soundsystem music coming from this guy.  Another one of his current productions, ‘Guardian’, is another soundscape lurker but, when this one drops it’s straight MADNESS!  Straight skanked-out rolling  drum hits on this one that make you bounce hard.  He’s got a killer vocal chant that hooks you while you step.  He just recently gave out a tune for free in his dubstepforum.gr feature so make sure to grab that one up below!  It’s titled ‘Secure’ and it’s another deep production with a unique energy to it that I’ve honestly never really experienced before.  His percussion arrangements are just flat-out proper.  He’s got mad basslines up his sleeve too.  Make sure to big him up for the freebie!  In addition to the free tunes you will find below from him, you can find more on his soundloud page, so visit that to swoop those up too.  Mad respect to him from the BWS fam.  Make sure to keep your eyes on this artist, I’m sure we are going to be seeing a lot more of his music throughout 2012.  Below you will also find a promo mix that he did, and a few other of his tunes and THEY ARE FREE DOWNLOADS.  So, show the man some respect!  Make sure to stay tuned this week we have some great music to showcase.  Nuff’ respect!

Respect da’ Roots

Wag Wan fam,

Today we finna’ bring you another round of reggae dubs to keep the spirits high 😉 Pulling a couple classics out of the bag and sharing them with you, because we know reggae brings the right vibes to all ears.  Light one up and have a listen.

First choon is a remix done by big bad west coast producers Noah D & Roommate, and dates back to 2008.  Originally a massive tune hailing from reggae-don Alborosie, titled ‘Police’, Noah D & Roomate throw their flavour into it, titling the tune Polizia Remix.  Most noticeable is the big chubby bassline accompanied by Alborosie’s high grade lyrics, making it a tune to throw in the list of classics.  Whether at home or in the club, always a big tune.

.

Next choon is another one dating back to around 2008 and is as solid as the last one.  The tune titled ‘ Big Up An’ Bun Her’ is similar to the last one with a sick reggae chant ushered by a bassline that makes you rock in your seat.  Perfect day-party type tune here.

.

The next one is from the evil half of Digital Mystiks, Coki.  On the remix of a tune titled ‘Wah Dem A Do’, Coki initiates his noticeable style into the tune while incorporating the gangsta for life lyrics so well known by veteran Mavado.  I like utilizing tunes like this because it often times reaches out to a larger audience than solely deep heads.

.

Last choon is mega bassweight remix by Marcus Visionary titled ‘The General’.  The original done by Jahdan Blakkamoore is nothing short of epic but, the remix really brings the pressure with powerful low-end frequencies.  Turn this one up, sit back, and enjoy.

.

Blessings.

Monday, Bloody Monday.

Bless!  Back again from another weekend, hope everyone had themselves good times.  It’s kind of been one of those “case of the monday’s” type days, if you catch my drift.  Not really much to say, we just have some high quality tunes for your audibal pleasures.  The badman duo Truth has been on releasing some hype tunes lately, like always.  Two new ones from them.  We also have two new tunes from DJ Madd.  The release, his The Real and The Shadow LP, is out late this week so make sure to snag dem a tunes.  Then theres another massive collaboration between Sleeper and District called ‘The Risk’.  Once these two boys get on the track together, nothing but quality reaches your ears.  Just for fun we’re going to leave you off with Skream’s disco mix that he did for Solid State Radio.  Straight vibes throughout.  Enjoy.

F*CK YEAH! For Fridays

The weekend is finally here.  Time to bust out Grandpas cough syrup and get stepping!  Today’s music is a very eclectic mix.  The first track, hailing from one of the best producers of the past 2011 year, Kahn, is a remix of an extremely HARD track by Killa P & Badness.  Kahn puts his touch on it and turns into an absolute gangster anthem.  A bit different from Kahn’s typical purpley dance vibes, but it still captures the production talents that this guy has, no doubt.  Tunnidge holds the torch for this next tune.  A foundation-style approach on this one gives it longevity and class.  Somewhere amidst his time spent rendering artistic portrayals of those fortunate enough to get a release on Deep Medi, this long time contender has created another musical gem.  He’s about to embark on a tour over here on the west coast so make sure to check out the tour dates on his Facebook page so you can catch one of his shows!  He is stopping in San Francisco, so all the heads up north, DON”T MISS OUT!  Commodo put out another forthcoming tune just recently, and as you would expect, it’s a BANGER.  Commodo was the first artist we ever highlighted here at BWS, back when he was first signed on as a member of the Deep Medi family.  It’s been sometime since we’ve gotten wind of a tune that will see a release but, after hearing this tune it was definitely worth the wait.  The shuffle-ly drum sequence sets up nice for the rest of the tune.  The synth leads about halfway in are really sick, so hold tight.  Today, we thought there could be no better song to ease you into the weekend than one of Authors latest productions.  These two just cannot stop putting out top-notch music.  Some of the most soulful vibes accompanied by the cleanest mixdowns.  It’s really exciting when you imagine what these guys will be coming up with over the next year, because they are undoubtedly some of the most talented musicians on an individual level, and once they come together,  it’s like they’re the only ones with a gun at the knife fight.  Massive respect to Author, and if you somehow see this, COME TO THE STATES PLEASE!!!!!

Killa P & Badness – Nuh Failer (Kahn Remix)

Tunnidge – Twenty12

Commodo – Jaded

Author – You Made Mistakes Too

.

That about wraps it up today.  Have a sick weekend and don’t be a gangster, dance like one!
