It’s Monday. F*@K.

Gwaann get up to da’ decks man.  Another Monday here to taunt us all with the 5 days we must wait until we are once again freed from our chains.  It really sucks how fast the weekends go by.  Straight up madness.  To say the least, I was extremely exhausted to begin with today, and then got flooded with a full day of work then a paper that I had to jam out before class.  Just got back to the crib and I am most definitely lacking the appetite for literary expression that I usually have.  Just one of those days, haha.  But, fear not, I have still gathered up a handful of good tunes that I have come across in the little free time I’ve had the past couple days.  A lot of mellow vibes featured in today’s post so, make sure you have a spliff ting’ ready for the lighta’.

First track on the decks is one from Macabre Unit crew member, Congi.  This track keeps it really smooth, minimal, and lounge-like vibed.  Nothing like a coffee and some creeping sunlight to this one.

Next track is another from TMSV.  This one’s another easy-vibed roller.  Actually progresses quite nicely from the previous track.  Not a lot needs to be said when a track comes out the hands of this guy except, LISTEN CLOSELY.  A true don to the game.

The next 3 tracks come from US based producer, VVV.  He makes truly beautiful music.  Each of the tracks listed below fit in perfectly with tunes such as the above.  The realness to his productions is unique and can’t really be matched by anybody.  I mean, his songs really take your mind away and let you drift for a few minutes at a time.  Vibbbbbbbbbeess.

All right, I know there is definitely some heads that want some heavy weight business so I got two for ya’ll.  First track is a remix that Chestplate boss Distance has recently put out.  Put out his interpretation of  Overjoyed, by Bastille, in a very nice fashion.  Got some eerie ting’s coming out the speakers with this track.  Vocal processing is top-notch and track is mixed-down flawlessly.  The to set things off rolling into Tuesday we have a new one put out by heavyweight bossman, Sleeper.  Forthcoming Chestplate records.  HUGE tune.

Shout outs to all BWS followers keeping it locked. We hope you enjoy jamming out to the tunes we post as much as we do. Thursday’s here which means tomorrow night we party, so in honor of that we’re gonna bring you some tunes to get you ready for the weekend.

First tune is one that’s been in circulation for some time now finding its way into the nooks and crannies of radio stations here and there. A large one from N-Type & Surge entitled Triangles set to release on Wheel & Deal sometime in the next couple months as part of an N-Type & Surge EP. Sorry about the vocals over the track, but if you listen past that, you’ll recognize that mega bass N-Type’s been cranking out for years. With fat smashing snares and scattered vocal echoes over a mega wobble this tune is bound to be one that will light up the dance. Enjoy.

The next tune we want to bring to your attention is one that’s been receiving much chatter around the internet, a tune we’d expect many of you heads to have your hands on, but one very worthy of further attention. The tune titled Classified by Organics was recently handed out for free via the Hedmuk Blog. This lurker is sure to make your nose itch if listened to with a proper sub. Quality production. The last one here is one sure to make you skank into the weekend. A monster of a tune from Anex with Demon on the remix a tune entitled Delusions. Getting airtime on both Youngsta’s and Distance’s Rinse.FM shows this is a massive one from upcoming producer Anex. So large, you hear the MC calling to pull it back, make sure to crank this one up. With a tribal drum intro into a half step stomper this one will surely blow ears. Whatever you’re doing this weekend be sure to enjoy yourself to this tune.

Christmas Freebies!

What is up, children of Jah.  Well Christmas has just passed and, as usual, there has been a great number of artists that have been generous enough to give the people FREE tunes.  We want to just take a second and truly commend these people.  This is how they make their living, and the fact that they are giving away free songs is one of the most selfless things a musician can do.  Too many people overlook the dedication, effort, and sacrifice that goes into each tune that a producer writes.  You should really think twice about about clicking that link next time you stumble upon an illegal download.  Unless you are that kind of person that enjoys stealing money from hardworking individuals.  But if that’s the case, FUCK OFF.  We have four different bundles of tunes today for you all.  One is hailing from the boys at Chestplate Records, and contains 4 very amazing tunes from the likes of Distance, District, and Sleeper.  The second one is a free tune from the Soap Dodgers.  Third in line we have a free EP from the extremely talented TMSV.  Lastly, we have the FINAL FREEIZM that will ever be released, according to Skream.  The release from Skream is an absolute gem.  It contains tracks that he made while still in his teen years and never released.  Really sick OG vibes on this one.

Top 20 Releases of 2011: #20 – #11

Well everyone, we have reached that time of year. A time when you look back at all the things that you have accomplished, and of course the things you have yet to. It’s a time when we begin to make goals for next year, however ridiculous they may be. It’s a time for family, friends, loved ones, and blah, blah, and blah. It has always been of interest how we, as humans, thrive on some sort of calendrical affirmation to our existence. It is both a very scary, and settling concept. Scary because each year that passes we are closer to the end of our existence. But is this not the same reason that the concept is settling? This constant reminder of our mortal existence, does it not attribute meaning to everything that we do? It is the recognition of this finite boundary that motivates our species to achieve. Without time effecting the biological/physiological expiration dates of our bodies, what would be the reason in finishing anything?

Today is part 1 of a 2 part series that will be highlighting Bassweight Society’s choices for the top 20 releases of 2011. We say releases, so our choices will range from a single song to a full-length album. It seems silly having to say this but, just for the record, we are covering releases within the 140 Dubstep arena. This was of one of the most painstaking things we have had to do for the website thus far. It took so long to gather all the great releases of this year. But, that was a cakewalk compared to the difficulty in narrowing a list of almost 100 tunes into a list of 20, and then ranking those 20. We understand that some of you will not agree with our choices but it’s our website so, start your own if it bothers you that much. We tried to encompass a lot of different styles within Dubstep, so hopefully that is seen by those reading this. So, without further ado, let’s get this thing started.

20. Sukh Knight, Mensah, Squarewave – G Activity (Hench Recordings)

  • One of the greatest party tunes this year has seen. Eastern vibes layered up with one of the most anthemic drops. Each producer on this track, on an individual level, smashes it. So, nothing less than great should be expected when all three collaborate on the same tune. Download here.

19. V.I.V.E.K. – Eyes Down EP (Deep Medi Musik)

  • Perfectly suiting the Deep Medi imprint, this 4 track EP takes the listener on a journey through human emotion. The sampling used in this album is of the highest caliber. His sounds have been described as “conciousness moving”, and this album is just that. Be on the look for this man in 2012. Download here.

18. Matt U – Straightened Up (Subway Music)

  • 1 of 3 tracks released on the Straightened Up EP. This tune is just an absolute slumper. Matt-U has been releasing some really big tunes for the past few years and this is just another one for him to add under his belt. Top notch production. Download here.

17. Distance – Meanstreak EP (Chestplate Records)

  • Founder of Chestplate Records, Distance, is out with another set of the heaviest and most evil sounds in the genre. This package is filled with 4 tracks produced with some extremely unique and technical sounds. Download here.

16. Truth & Decoda – The Emperor (Wheel & Deal Records)

  • As if the New Zealand duo hadn’t made enough noise since 2009, they had to top off their year with this absolute gem. We feel that this tune is a perfect example of how you make an aggressive party tune without going over the top. Download here.

15. Matty G – Back To The Bay EP (Dub Police Records)

  • It is a proud moment for us to place this release on our top 20. California native Matty G released one of the most unique and West Coast-vibed Dubstep albums ever this year. Each track has a different feel. Each track is produced amazingly. The samples and influences that Matty brings into his sounds truly make an imprint on the UK dominated genre. Download here.

14. Pinch – Swish (Deep Medi Musik)

  • The almighty Pinch, who never ceases to amaze, dropped this ultimate sub-flexer mid-year. The tune is a fine display of innovation applied to classical Dubstep ideals. Download here.

13. L Wiz – Fotbojan (Hench Recordings)

  • One of the finest producers of the “purple” sound, L-Wiz releases amazing tunes each year. This track is an absolute feel-good vibe. One you grab the person you love to and skank out. One that you hear as the night is about to end and you look at your friends around you and say to yourself, “fuck, life is so good!”. Massive out to L-Wiz for this one. Download here.

12. LX One – You/Give It Up ( Wheel & Deal Records)

  • Both of these tunes are for the deep heads. Spot-on production skills. The bouncy vibe of ‘Give It Up’ is too good. The track ‘You’ is one that emits a tremendous amount of low-end pressure. This is how an MC shows you a thing or two about production. Download here.

11. DJ MADD – Arpz 3000 (Subway Music)

  • DJ MADD is a producer who has been making huge tune after huge tune in the shadows. A lot of people don’t know that this man is one of the hardest working and talented artists out there. Each year he releases a large number of tunes on various labels. This year he blessed us with many more. ‘Arpz 3000’ is a tune that anybody can get down to. Download here.

Rewind Wednesday: Where The Weight Comes From.

What’s up everybody.  Today we are going to take a little journey back in time.  First we are going to go back to a time when Dubstep was just starting to gain the title ‘Dubstep’, as it began to branch off the Dark Garage that was being made in the late 1990’s – early 2000’s.  From there we will slowly ascend into the later years of the 21st century highlighting tunes that really began to cement Dubstep’s foundation as a musical genre and, most importantly, as a culture.  For some of you this might be preexisting knowledge, and if that’s the case there is nothing wrong with hearing classics one more time, but for some of you this could very well serve as a great history lesson of the music you love.  We believe that regardless of what particular style of Dubstep you fancy, be it the aggressive ear-piercing saw waves, or be it the deeper, spacious, and more meditative sounds, it is important to understand the roots of where it all came from.  So here we go.  Today we have 6 songs for everybody that, in a very incomplete manner, show the evolution of Dubstep.

This first tune is one produced by, arguably, the most influential person in the early formation of Dubstep music.  Lewis Beadle, aka El-b, is a man who has been innovating sounds since the days when we were just elementary youth’s.  Owner of Ghost Recordings and all-around badman, he has been keeping sounds fresh and forward-thinking.  The tune that we have for you today is one from late 2002, titled ‘Buck & Bury’, still has many elements of garage but also shows the emphasis on low-end bass-lines that had began to show in the music.  Just a heads up, the HIGHLY anticipated album, ‘Ghost Chaser’, from Ghost Recordings is due out soon.  This is something you should definitely keep your eyes open for as it will surely be a milestone release for bass music.

El-b ft. Juiceman – Buck & Bury

The second tune is from another frontman of Dubstep.  Running the FWD> nights and spreading music through hand-to-hand exchanges of CD’s, Hatcha was a busy man, as he still is today!  Catch Hatcha alongside Crazy D every Tuesday on Kiss FM 12-1 am.  The tune we have for you from the badman Hatcha is titled ‘Dub Express’ and was released on Tempa back in 2003.  Again, we see that Garage break-style drum sequence, but the bass-line has much more presence.  Lend your ears.

The next track hails from the productions of Digital Mystikz.  Composed of two unrivaled producers, Mala and Coki, this production group has released some of the most prolific tunes in the history of Dubstep.  But these guys are more than just a musical icon.  Their philosophies on life, love, and the spirituality of human being’s is of utmost admiration.  These philosophies show through their music as they incite an immense amount of emotion with each tune.  The one we have for you today is a release from 2004 called ‘Pathways’, released on Big Apple Records.

The next track is one that EVERY SINGLE person who calls themselves a “Dubstep head” should know.  If you don’t know this track just pretend that you do, because not knowing is just embarassing.  The production, titled ‘Midnight Request Line’, is by far one of the largest tunes that was, and still is, ever released.  Coming from the world-acclaimed production of Oliver Jones, aka Skream, this tune perpetually flooded the airways of every radio station exhibiting Dubstep music.  Nuff’ said about this one, just turn the sub up and skank out.  Released 2005.

This next one is from the likes of Walsh and Kromestar and is a melodic roller with vibes similar to the Dub music made in the late 1980’s from influences such a King Tubby and Scratch Perry.  This one, released in 2006, is truly a spliff riddim’, despite its title of  ‘Panik Room’.

The final tune that we have for everybody today hails from the deepest dungeons of Dubstep music, the archives of Distance.  This tune, ‘Radical’, gave way to many of the purely evil sounds that have been adopted by so many producers today.  Owner of Chestplate Records and some of the heaviest tunes to reach peoples ears, Distance is one our favorite producers to ever grace this earth.  This one was released in 2007 and is an absolute necessity to any heads’ collection.  Be afraid.
