Introducing: Uprise Audio

EZ fam’.  It’s going to be an intense couple of weeks coming up for the soundsystem culture.  We got Outlook Festival and immediately following, Dimensions Festival.  Both of these festivals have become pinnacle events for various lovers of bass.  Catered to Dub heads, House heads, Drum and Bass heads, Dubstep heads, whatever heads.  For those of you lucky enough to experience these events, my hat is off to you.  Despite being accommodated to do coverage for the US, I was unable to afford the flights out there – which has been killing me.  Next year though, 100% BWS will be there with T-shirts, stickers, and the whole nine yards :).  Can’t wait to hear about everybody’s experience (even though it will further my feelings of jealousy lol)!

Today I want to shed some light on a brand new label that will be in full-force early October.  If you use Facebook I’m sure you have seen the promotions being blasted around, but if not, this should be some quite exciting news.  This is something that BWS has been holding back for a couple months now to announce, and it makes me very proud to finally do so.  Badman Eddy Woo, aka Seven, has teamed up with Subculture Artists main woman behind the scenes Verity to launch Uprise Audio.  I shouldn’t have to give an introduction for Seven because the man has been a don to the scene for over a decade, whether it be his early drum and bass or more recent dubstep productions.  Verity is woman who has a work ethic that most can only aspire to.  Between her involvement with Subculture Artists and ICU Audio, working a studio, and NOW Uprise Audio, I often find myself wondering how the f*ck she does all this when there is only 24 hours in a day.  I mean, seriously though?

The imprints debut release is set for early October and coming from the hands of USA’a very own (although he now lives in Berlin), Dubtek.  With previous releases on labels like Paradise Lost, Requiem Audio, and Shift Recordings (to name a few), Dubtek has been steadily climbing the ranks among deep heads worldwide.  His debut release for Uprise Audio will without a doubt turn any heads that’ve slept on his productions.  The A side, ‘Extension’, is a massive track that will leave you slumped in your seat from the drum grooves and massive amounts of bass pressure.  ‘Plus Ultra’ (B side) is my personal favorite off this release.  This one just bounces and bounces,  non-stop.  The detail of this production caught my ears first time around and each time I listen to it I find something else.

.

.

If you live in the UK, Uprise will be throwing a release party on October 4th in Nottingham at Stealth Nightclub.  The event will FREE ENTRY and have performances by Dubtek, Nanobyte, Chewie, Andrew V.C. (Vicious Circle), Seven, and Truth.  Holding down the microphone will be the infamous Toast, alongside Alys Be and Yayne.  Definitely going to want to get in on this event.  Not very often to you get that kind of quality lineup with no entrance fee!  Check the event page here.

This is definitely an imprint that you’ll want to keep your ears out for as they will be putting out some absolutely amazing music (I’ve been lucky enough to hear previews 😉 ) !!!

I will catch you next time fam’.

To the gods.

Cauze & KBeatz – Nightmares/Subway

Artwork: Mesck

Ez everyone!  Hope all is well with BWS fam’.  Much love and respect for tuning in to the posts here.

Today I wanted to bring light to a release that hit the shelves last Monday.  It is with great pleasure to highlight this release from Vulcan Audio, a US/UK-based label run by Biak and Medik.  You might recognize from Biak from from his releases on Bacon Dubs, Sub Pressure, and Gamma Audio, while Medik holds releases from Loveless, Sub Pressure, and Onset Audio. This EP will mark the second release for the imprint, and does so in a mighty fashion.  Cauze and KBeatz add a very flavorful dynamic to the Vulcan Audio family.

The A side, ‘Nightmares’, is beautifully constructed with swinging percussion and groove-filled basslines.  The vocal sample is a great lead-in to the onslaught of growls and low-end pressure.  It’s fresh on the ears to hear the growls constantly changing form – especially right now when growls have become a weapon of choice for many artists.  The B side, ‘Subway’, is a f*cking massive tune!  The placement of the stabs, bleeps, and drums culminates into a bounce-drenched lurker. I got similar vibes as Truth’s 2010 Boka hit, ‘Hackerz’.  This one really has dope atmosphere to it – keeping things minimal but packed with a punch.

Enjoy the sounds, support the artists, and spread the love.

Catch you next time.

Spotlight: Innamind Recordings

Today we want to feature a record label that’s putting out some serious heat and bound to be turning heads in the year to come.  Hailing from the bass bumping mega island New Zealand, today’s post highlights Innamind Recordings.  Stacked with releases planned in the months to come and a roster of artists producing quality lurkers, I think we can expect big things from these boys.

The first artist of mention, is part of the UK’s Macabre Unit crew which we covered last; they go by the name of Pheral.  Pheral is a collaboration of Gengar and Bagheera, two producers/DJ’s from Leuven, Belgium. The duo came together in October 2011, united by a love for the eyes-down side of things. Support comes from the likes of Sleeper, Biome, Demon, Perverse, Tallan, Versa, Rowl, Anex, Occult etc.  Alongside their productions, they’re also residents at Leuven events Entropy and Space Shaped.  A couple months ago, Pheral put out a release on Innamind titled ‘Sanctuary/Hatchway’.  Sanctuary’s a deep one, with a sick ominous sample set right before the drop.  This one’s straight dark, almost creepy in a way.  Sick use of percussion in this one no doubt.  Hatchway’s on the same tip, quick snare patterns and deep sweeping drums.

Head over to Pheral’s Facebook page to hear a recent remix of his tune done by a producer named Knowledge, its deep!

Next on the lineup is Percept.  Set to release an E.P. entitled Boxed In later this month, Percept displays the sound that we here at BWS love to listen to.  Check his tune ‘Boxed In’, it’s soundsystem music to say the least.  Hold tight for this waan.

.

Moving forward, we got sounds coming from Nanobyte, a producer from Cardiff, UK.  It’s unreal how much good music comes from the UK, but when you have enough creative minds in a small area pushing the boundaries of quality bass music, you can expect large things.  The first couple of tunes showcased are titled ‘Shadow Hunter’ and ‘Shen’.  I catch myself finding a lack of words to describe the depth of the production being pushed so have a listen.  This is what music feels like.

Also these mandem did a remix of ‘Dem A Talk’ which is straight on par.  That’s the third high grade remix of this tune we’ve heard with other remixes coming from Compa and TMSV.  He’s giving it away once he gets 600 follower on Facebook so start following!

Nanobyte – Dem A Talk (Remix)

.

Last artist to highlight today under the Innamind imprint is Gantz.  Last week we covered a remix of one of his tunes and this week we want to mention a release set to come out in months to come.  The tune’s titled ‘Left Right Hindsight’ and has a different vibe than the rest.  Constant kick drums and off beat snares light up the speakers with part of the tune sounds like Jah blowing a huge breathe through the rest of the elements. Listen all the way to the end as the second drop fades out, it’s really dope.  Also forthcoming on the Gantz EP is a tune called ‘Cave Dance’.  This one takes you through an abyss of spacey, tribal-influenced deepness.  This EP is going to be much anticipated by all the heads.

That’s Innamind Recordings in a nutshell for you.  Be sure to have a deeper look at the label for other artists not covered today such as Content, and tunes put out in the past.  Watch their space, as they’re set to release tunes on wax later in the year.  Thanks for all support.  Tonight we are headed to LA to bruk out to one of the our biggest bass music heavyweights, Breakage.  Check this space later in the week for a review on what dubplates he had up his sleeve.  Knowing that mans swaggers, it’s finna be XXXL.

Bless,

– BWS (Lowkey)

Free Bass: Habstrakt, Culprate & Compa

It’s Monday and we’re back at it with a gang of absolutely free tunes. While you we’re out raging, we scanned soundcloud for the best free tunes around. All these rumblers were given out by the artists, so don’t trip, click.

First up is a soulful club shaker by the dynamic French producer Habstrakt along with Badjokes. The track ‘Miaow’ gets us bouncing from the get go and drops with a deep swelling bassline. It doesn’t stop there, it gets more and more interesting as the song goes along with hi-synth pokes and midrange additions. Download the whole free EP including amazing deep remixes by WarMateba and HubwarNekochan. Don’t sleep on this one.

.

Next freebie comes to us from master-producer Culprate. In normal Culprate fashion he takes a different approach to what we perceive to be ‘dubstep’. Tentacle VIP is filled with clean samples, excellent editing techniques and most importantly, bass. This is the perfect pre-summer jam and its 100% Free.

.

Last up is a meditation piece by BWS homie, Compa. In this track he lets the sub ride along with legendary vocals from Bjork, razor sharp percussion and cinematic strings to complement. Subwoofer is a must on this one.

A new day, a new dub! Gonna keep it short and sweet as we have to go drink some beer.  Today we’re featuring a grip of new artists along with a label to surely keep your eyes on.  Macabre Unit Digital was created in October 2011 and is headed up by deep producer Demon, a member of the UK’s Macabre Unit crew, a self described “multi talented music outfit, from drum & bass, grime, to hip hop/rnb… thru to dubstep”.  Under the banner M.U.D, this label keeps delivering bassweight hits. Lets get straight to it!

.

Biggups to FatKidOnFire for exposing Anex to us with a large free EP released via their soundcloud.

The “Requiem EP”‘s largest track, in our opinion, is Congi’s remix which features goosebump-enducing second drop. Make sure to download the entire EP because it’s rare to get such a good batch of tunes for FREE!

Being the dub-detective type, we checked out Congi’s soundcloud and again were blessed with some deep, minimal dubstep!
